Let me just say that I do like my Larrivee(s) and I also like my forum friends here and it is upsetting to see this forum veer into the territory that other forums wallow in;  personal attacks, name calling, and just plain poor manners.   I think this forum is better than that.  in fact the Larrivee Forum is just like Larrivee guitars;   perfect most of the time but a stinker gets through every once in a while despite the best intentions.

:+1:  Well said Tuffy.

I very much like my Larrivee and I value the wisdom, experience, humor, and occasional cantankerousness of the forum members.  By and large, a classy group.

Dan,  I sure know the sentiment you express here on how my perspective and coping ability can change in a day.  Glad of it for you.

I love my Larrivee's even though I have a couple small issues. No person or product is perfect, if I can overlook small imperfections in my guitar I certainly can overlook small imperfections in people.

Dan, you had just gotten the number of members who ignore you down, hope that thread doesn't change things.

I have owned an L-50, D-09 cedar top, mahogany classical, J-09-12, and an L-09KV.  I currently own a D-05 with custom Leaf & Vine headstock inlay, and an L-11.  They were/are all outstanding guitars.  I sold the ones I don't own to cure 'new guitar blues'.  I wish I hadn't sold the L-50.  It was a little on the fancy side, but played and sounded like a dream.  I had a weak moment and sold it to buy the D-09 cedar top.

L-50 ????

The L-50 has a large eagle/ribbon inlay in the peghead.  It has torch inlays on the fingerboard.  The purfling on the top is dark holly (I think) and extends around the fingerboard extension.  It has the old style rosette.  Spruce top and Indian Rosewood back and sides with rosewood (I think) binding.  It was a thing of beauty and a joy to hear and play.

I never knew that an L-50 existed.   50 and 60 series are considered the "traditional" series and would, in fact, preclude making an L body with 50 series trim since it's not part of the traditional line.   But if you say you had one I believe you.   It must be very rare.

Not sure what I missed from the earlier posts.... but that's alright, i'm sure everyone have a share of bad days   -

Going back to the topic, I was bitten by the L-bug in March this year.  Since then, I owned couple of them, OM-03R SH, LV-09E and OO-03.  I like them so much and still lovin' my Larrivees.  I also own other brands like Taylor & Breedloves, but to me my LV-09E is so well balanced, playability wise as well as the sound.

Thank you.
:cheers

If you can find a Larrivee catalog from the mid 80s you'll see a picture of one.  Elderly Instruments had a used one for sale about two years ago.  This is strange.  When I contacted Larrivee about the L-50 a few years ago they told me the same thing you just did.  Is that wierd or what??

Found this with a search, mid 90's?

"Live simply so that others may simply live"

This is a piece of Larrivee legacy and lore that many forum members, have not been aware of.  Or else I just haven't been paying attention for the past few years.  Even the "50" designation would, today, signify a mahogany b/s while a "60" series would be rosewood.   The Larrivee nomenclature is pretty consistent but not always I guess.

I believe this is what leftync has in the D model.  I didn't know they made them in an L too, I'll bet it's real nice.  It was an attempt at the bluegrass market which is largely Martin-lovers that are tough to pry away.  I played his and it sounds terrific, also it sports the traditional Larrivee mosaic rosette.  Not many were made but it wasn't because they didn't sound great!

I love my 000-50 and I REALLY love my OM-05.  The OM is now my main performing guitar and the one I grab most times when I just want to noodle at the house.  The 000 has taken me into real fingerstyle and has inspired me.   David
