 :donut :coffee :cheers

hi all
I am not brand new on here but havent posted for ages (mainly due to to work keeping me away from my guitars) and i am ashamed to say i didnt bring doughnuts & coffee first time around so here they are! with some good old british real ale, you know warm beer, as it should be (!)

thanks to everyone for all the advice and interesting comments posted which i read regularly.

My question is - I have an LJ09 which is lovely - loud for strumming / flat picking accompaniment - and sounds beautiful when finger picked, nice clear bass, not too boomy, all the strings ring clear.
Basically I cant find anything much out about this model - will it be made again? why did they stop (is there a problem I havent hit yet or that my ears havent heard yet!)  and other than size how is it different to the L09?   the guy i bought it off thought it was an L09 til i pointed out the label (i think he needed glasses).
I am very happy with it (has a LR Baggs dual fitted) - and I did own an L-03 which I sold when I go this - and this doesnt "feel" bigger on my lap

Thanks in advance from the UK

The LJ is the jumbo version of the L,Its sorta of a J200 with a different shape. As for them not being made any more I would say its because jumbo's ar hard to move.I had an LJ05 that I sold to a friend and I also had a J05 which is a standard jumbo size.I love jumbo's but my old body just can't handle them anymore. They do sound sweet.Enjoy it its a very veristile guitar.

jonnybees, you are one lucky guy to have that guitar! They're rare, and they're pretty cool - I remember back when Larrivee made those (and the regular jumbos - another sweet guitar).  As unclrob said, enjoy it!

And welcome back to the Larrivee nuthouse!

thanks guys
i still can't reconcile how they may be hard to move if they sound sweet !!  :?
it doesnt look or feel like a jumbo - but does sound good, slightly better to my ear than the L03 and has a lovely feel to play (which I guess is personal)

putting it into crude terms (and if I could play like them) I'd use my LJ to play like martin simpson and my Fylde Orsino  to play like martin carthy; the LJ to accompany a cool female singer with a lovely voice and my Fylde to accompany an  old time harmony group doing angel band (I know that needs a 1930s Gibson but I dont have one!)

I ll do a sound clip for the sticky thread up top -
a) how do I get it on there and
b) any rules for recording? I'll prob use a zoom H2 and Sure mic

and if you hadn't noticed my other guitar is an old Fylde Orsino - very old and delicate now.
Any more comments from forum members appreciated

I have one of the LJ-05's. Its a sweet guitar. I expect that a combination of business reasons resulted in Larrivee discontinuing jumbos. Low sales, greater difficulty obtaining quality larger wood sets, and increased shipping costs.  And the jumbos were discontinued at a time when Larrivee was trying to expand their product lines into other areas than just acoustic guitars.

i was wondering if I'd acquired  "poor relation" of the Larrivee range but by the sounds of not so!

I'm sure that the jumbo market is very small. At the finger style playing was getting big and for some strange reason guitar players feel that you can only play fingerstyle on a small body guitar.Me I played everything on my J05.The only reason I sold it was that my right shoulder is so messed up I couldn't play it without some real bad pain.It got maybe 10-15 min. a day and she needed to be played.I do miss her and she seems to be making the rounds which is a shame.Wish I had the dime to buy her back.

I would love to hear and play a Larrivee jumbo.  For me.......the bigger the better when it comes to guitars.  My D-03MT vibrates through my whole body when I play it.  I can't even imagine how much more a jumbo would feel.

I remember when I bought my D-03MT......there was a wall of various 03 line Larriee's and I played it up against OM, L, and other D's.  Sure wish they would have had a jumbo to compare it to.  Nothing felt or sounded like the dred.  I'm sure the experience and awe with a jumbo would be very similar.

Man.........how cool would it be to have one of the forum guitars be a jumbo version?

I had an LCJ-09, the larger L with cutaway, around 1997-98, when they first came out with the silver strip around the headstock.  Great guitar, but the size was an issue after a while.  Sold it to somebody in the Ontario/Buffalo area a while back.  Off the rack it was great souning and playing, but the size lost out.
