As I mentioned a few weeks ago, we went on a long road trip from California to Nova Scotia. On the way I stopped at Elderly Instruments and bought a used Larrivee Parlor guitar. I'm back from the trip (which was great) and took some pictures of the guitar today. It is a P01 Rosewood Special Edition (Spruce on Rosewood) built in Vancouver in 2002. It is very plain with no body binding and a satin finish. The spruce top is a great honey color and the back and sides are pretty dark rosewood. I had to do some fretwork and general cleanup and it is now very comfortable to play and sounds great.

And, in case you didn't know (which I didn't), during lobster season in that part of the world, McDonald's sells McLobster Rolls.

Well, McD's sells them but you'd be better off getting one at a roadside chipstand.  And when you drive through New Brunswick, stop and get some fried clams and chips....that's good eatin!

Nice shots WileE.  Does that one have the 1 11/16" nut???  I used to have the same guitar, EIR/spruce, and it was incredible how much sound came out of that tiny little guitar.  Congrats.

Thanks -- me too. I guess I'm not much of a 'blingy' guy.

Thanks. I had one of the McLobsters and it was pretty good -- with actual chunks of lobster.

Thanks Denis. I do love fried clams and did have some in New Brunswick. They were quite good. Overall, the food was good, the people were nice, and the scenery was wonderful. We even managed to stay one step ahead or behind the hot weather.

As for the nut on the parlor, it was advertised as 1 3/4" but your question got me to get out the caliper and do some measuring. The nut on the parlor measures out to a hair over 1 23/32" (~1 47/64" but my caliper only measures to 32nds) and is almost the same width as my Martin OM-1 which is also advertised as 1 3/4" but comes in ever so slightly below that. My OM-05MT accurately measures out to 1 3/4". I have a Gretsch Americana that measures to 1 11/16" but my old Guild D25M measures to 1 21/32". My hands (and shoulder) notice the change from the Guild to the others but I don't really notice the difference in width between the Martin and the Larrivees. The scale lengths, tunings, and string differences make each one a challenge for me and keep things interesting. At any rate, the parlor is comfortable to play and, yes, it does put out a lot of sound. And, although it is from the other side of the country, it is a nice souvenir from our most recent trip to Canada.
