Well, the Seymour Duncan 59s are in the Epiphone Dot now. I gotta tell ya, Im amazed. The stock pickups are apparently wax potted Alnico humbuckers, supposedly 59 PAF clones, but the difference between the Epiphone pickups and the Seymours is laterally night and day. The glaring difference is in the neck pickup, which is where I spend most of my time being a blues player. The stock pickups where muddy and undefined on the low strings, making any bluesy runs down to the fat strings turn to mush. The Seymours are clear and bright, with a nice woody tone to them. If I roll off the volume a bit I can get near single coil clarity out of it. Its also got more of a hollow body tone now too. Ya kinda want that when you go to the trouble of buying a hollow body!

I highly recommend this upgrade for any Epiphone owners out there, its basically transformed the guitar into a tone giant.

A word of warning for those attempting this on a 335, clone or probably any hollow or semi hollow guitar. Getting the pots back in there right holes after the soldering process will test you patience. You basically have to do key-hole surgery through the F-holes. I made up a couple of tools out of wire coat hangers, and it still took a few goes to get em in....

Anyway, Im off to annoy the neighbours.

Just put a deposit on one of these...

A Laney TF200. 65 watt, solid state with one tube in the preamp. 1x12 speaker. I thought Id try a (mostly) non-tube amp this time around. It delivers nice warm cleans and a great bluesy drive. It sounded great with the Seymour equipped Epi Dot. I should be picking it up in a couple of weeks. Its a new-old stock model thats made in England. The newer model, the LV200 is made in China. Oh, I also got it for nearly half retail... :bgrin:

Cheers, Scott.
