My beloved LS03 IS/M went for a nose dive tonight because I was too lazy to drag the stand half way across the room. I am SUCH an idiot!

Oh, so sorry to hear that.  Any significant damage?

I feel your pain. About three months after I purchased my parlor, I was adjusting the neck with the wrench and there was a burr on the wrench and it was stuck in the bolt. I had to tug on it to pull it out and it knocked a hangnail sized sliver out of the sound hole. I found the chip and Jim Holler was able to glue it back in place. It's barely noticeable to anyone else (but me). This won't make it any easier for you but hopefully it helps to know you aren't alone.

P.S. My mother told me she felt the same way when I fell off my the swing set next door when I was four and broke my collar bone. (My first major injury on her watch).

The first ding is always the worst..after that one you stop noticing quite so much, once your guitar has 3 or more they are just "battle scars"...one of my LV10 MR`s has had a crack reparied, has had mic stands bashed into it, jack plugs whipped against it... even a plate of sandwiches dropped on it but it doesn`t stop me loving it...it makes me love it even more...like the ally cat with only one ear :-) Cheers, Pete

Ah, ah, not me, you can have all the dings, dents, charactor, whatever you want to call it. I make sure my guitars a always carefully stored on a stand or in a case when finish playin' and away from kids, animals and passerby's. Sorry to hear about your guitar Lynda, hope it didn't have any damage done to it, cheer up buddy

Pete, I try to keep a guitar as nice as possible, while always remembering I bought it to play it and hopefully get better because of playing it.

Apparently she is ding less  :bgrin: I waited until my husband got home to have a good look at her as he has a much better eye for this stuff than I do.

I agree that she will be dinged eventually, but I'm still a newbie and I have only had Sienna since April!

Absolutely untrue.

Let me state it this way: A pristine guitar is a guitar that is not being well played regularly and most likely is a guitar that is not being played well. If a guitar is being played daily, used to make music, which after all is its intended purpose, it is bound to show signs of that usage.

I'm with GA-ME on this.  If you really devote time to playing an instrument, it is gonna get knocked eventually.  Even playing in the safest of surroundings in my living room, if I am really working on learning something new, or recording, I end up surrounded by laptops, headphones, capos, stands, recording equipment, tuners, chairs, coffee cups by the dozen.  If I was totally obsessed about everything being in its place and 100% guitar safety, I would SO not be into the learning and enjoyment of the instrument in the same way.

I'm all for being careful, but accidents happen.  My Larry's now have two substantial dings each, bith totally accidental, and both whilst playing in circumstances similar to the above.  Do they reduce my enjoyment of them?  Not one little bit!

I know that my guitars are gonna show wear from playing...but that's eventually. :roll

I just couldn't believe how stupid I was last night is all.

I continually amaze myself as well.  Don't worry about it;  no harm / no foul.

I tend to keep my guitars on the pristine side, but when I'm going out to play with friends, I usually take my best (read my current favourite) guitar, which gets passed around and played by one and all.  I agree that there's no point in having them if they don't get played...

I've noticed the older I get, the stupider I get. On the plus side, the older I get the less anal I am.

I'm very careful with my guit's but sh*t happens.  I just try to keep my LV-19 in pristine condition and avoid any major damage to the 03's. No damage to the LS yet and it has been with me up north all summer. My hog top though has got several little dings or scratches but it has had the snot played out of it (and it was worth it).

Glad you didn't suffer any real damage Lynda.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer.  Or winter as the case may be.

"Live simply so that others may simply live"

Don't feel too bad.  I learned that lesson the hard way when I snapped the neck right off of a $1,700 Ovation 12-string that I once owned.  After that I started investing in wall hooks in addition to my stands.

Pristine - Don't mean it doesn't get played/used
Dings, dents, etc, etc - Don't mean it's well played - Just plain stupidity/careless
A well scratched plate/guard - Is well played

C'mon, you're  definitely NOT stupid,or an idiot!

I've read many of your interesting posts,so my interpretation is you are "only a wee bit frustrated"!......BTW,been there and got past it.Not with my gits, but other passion objects.

There is an old saying(like 3,000 years ond),which really makes sense...."If you can do something about it,don't worry. If you cannot do anything about it...why bother to worry?"

In any event you have a lovely guitar or three, and most likely can play "things of beauty" on each of them...at the end of the day,so what's to worry?

  Good luck

Congratulations on your dingless state of affairs.  That's a relief.  It is true that "the first cut is the deepest."  Cat Stevens had it  right.  But at least, to date, there is no first cut yet.  As far as a pristine guitar being an unloved guitar, well, it may be debatable but the sentiment behind posting it is sweet.  And it's what I'll tell myself the next time I inadvertantly ding my guitar.
