Zoom H2 Auto Record Help

I would like to set a Zoom H2 to turn off automatically at a particular time (actually, I would be delighted if I could set it to turn on and off at pre determined times). I understand that the auto on/off only works when a recordable signal is detected and stops when silence of a predetermined length is detected. I am taping from a home hi fi system and would like to record a program that airs in the wee hours. If I hooked an electronic timer to my stereo's power source and set the H2 for auto start/stop record, would that work? Also does the h2 save automatically? Thanks in advance for your input.

Why don't you set it up and test it ahead of time?
