If thats true, then I hope they are substantially different, and much more expensive, or I will be more than a bit peeved, and less inclined to participate in future "special Forum guitars".

Bunch of Larrivees - all good -
and a wife that still puts up with me, which is the best -

Well they had made these before in limited quantities, just not with IS, MH tops and 3 microdots on the 12th fret.
I've always thought that this would inspire the LS return to the Larrivee line up.

danny

I also hoped it would inspire the return of the LS to the regular line.

Dragon, thanks for making me feel a little better. I'm just getting jumpy & antsy waiting for mine to come. I'm even thinking about calling Jim & see if I can trade my OM-05 for a rosewood model. Unfortunately, I haven't played ANY F-III, so don't & won't know if I'd be making the right move until my IS/HOG comes.
Any comments? Danny, you have the same wood combo. Lynda, You have the one I'm thinking about getting. Any help, please? :?

As has been stated, the "extra" were started in case there were problems with any of the original 78 that might have developed during production, so it's not 'open-ended'. Not sure how often stuff happens during a build where they have to scrap a guitar

It happens. Take vancouver southpaw for example.  He ordered a lefty, but they built on right handed instead,.  The righty is now and"extra" and they have built him a sweet lefty to make up for it.  They built an extra lh rosewood/italian spruce too.  Larrivee gave me the option of which one to take, and the other one is now an "extra".  It gives them a bit of a comfort zone, and is a nice added bonus to those that did not get on board, for whatever reason, before the original cut off.

I do support the cut off too.  The extras should not be numbered in my opinion, to keep the integrity of the 'limited run" intact.  If there were a lefty available in IS/hog, I would have to think very hard about it.  Even though it would not be a numbered F-3, all of the same care that went into the limited run is in the extra ones.  And that, I think, is what it is about.  If you can, I highly suggest getting on board.  I can't see an LS-03 with the italian spruce making it into a production guitar again.  I think it'll be in the higher series, and likely not in an LS body.  My opinion only though.

Jeff I have had 6 RW Larrivees and 1 maple until this MH F-III and I really am just amazed with the immaculate tones coming out, so for me no need for another F-III at all.

danny

Jeff, I have to say that I don't think you can go wrong with a Forum III numbered or not. As for the rosewood, well I LOVE rosewood and just adore Bella. The tones in this guitar are very different to the tones in Holly, the guitar. Hard to describe. I'm an enabler, so I'm gonna say go for it. The Italian Spruce is just amazing. Good luck.

I'm mainly worried about the same body style, even though they'd be different woods. My OM-05 is very versatile & I only flatpick. The sounds I get out of my OM are amazing, but now I wonder if the difference in the LS with different body woods would be as great. I swore my F-III would be my last guitar I buy, now this. I think I had too many beans with my dinner because I've got wicked GAS right about now. Another problem is what Jim would give me for my OM. I'm sure I'd have to make up a fair piece of $ to get one from him. My OM is almost mint, the only problem being a little bit of glue showing (if you look hard) where the neck was reset. When it came in from Larrivee, there was a gap on the heel side of the neck, where I could slide a piece of paper in about1/4"in. Got an R.A. within a week & had it fixed. It's fine now. I sold my Epi, owe $400 more on the F-III after subtracting that, trying to sell my camera to incognito's girlfriend, plus 3 watches, & Polk speakers to any takers. I'm getting desperate. My wife would have a s*** fit if I even bring this up to her, being in our financial situation. I have $ in my savings, just have to put it back. Now I'm in more of a quagmire than this post started.

Jeff,

When I first saw Danny's hog/IS, I remember admiring the back of it. If I did not know any better, I would have sworn it was a one-piece back.
If I knew back in December what I know now, I probably would have ordered a hog/IS.

For sure, the FG III more than satisfies all that I'm looking for in a guitar - the size, the sound, the feel - it's just, I couldn't believe it, Sooooo Perfect !!!

I, myself said, I would like all three tonewood combos.  Man, I'd give up my Taylor, OM-40, and OO to be able to do that.

But, the brain for a change is ruling over the heart.   What really would I do with 3 FG IIIs when I'm already so very satisfied with my one FG III?

I played it leading about one dozen people I hardly know, they would normally very shy and would not sing much.  I can tell that they are appreciating the sound coming out of my FG III and the relative ease that I played it with feelings (I was one with my guitar). The songs were new to them - yet, I believe there was "magic" or shall we say, a connection between the sweet sound of my FG III which prompted these people to gladly sing along !!!

It is not too often I get that connection with the people I'm leading in singing. When I was playing my FG III with softer moderate strumming, the sound that I heard reminded me of a brand new piano which has still brand new felts on its hammers hitting the strings.

Even though mine is rosewood, when strummed moderately, it is not ringy and sharp sounding like my OO-09.  It actually sounds 'woody' - reminds me of my Taylor Walnut b&s 410E - a dreadnaught (did I spell that right?  got used to just saying "dread").

Long story short, for now, I'm happy with my one FG III.   Thanks also to Lynda for emailing my wife convincing her that I need a second FG III.

I won't talk about how my wife responded to that heroic enabling act. Unless, I have a liquid 1100usd, I won't be getting another FG III any time soon.

ricky it is good to here you enjoying your F-III, I know when I heard you play at Mike's place I thought that the RW/IS was the right choice for your style of playing. Now all you need is a pick up.

danny

Bottom line with me, do I keep a mahogany OM-05 & F-III IS/HOG (plus my trusty L-10; feeds my RW need) or do I go for 2 guitars of the same body style, just different woods. Is the difference in sound that noticeable? Would I still be married next month? All things to ponder. I'm just feeding into the IS frenzy the Forum has created.
Joseph emailed me & said why don't I keep my OM & ask Jim to swap my FG for a non-numbered RW. I thought about that, still am, just don't know what the heck to do.Wouldn't be the first time I had 2 of the same body style, just different woods ( 2 Flammang OM's, RW & HOG). Just haven't heard back from Jim yet to let me know if he wants my OM-05. I checked & he has none in stock, new or used. Might be a good sign. I don't know what he'd give me on trade. I did well with my OM-03SP I gave him towards the F-III I ordered.
Someone please guide me to the light that's @ the end of the tunnel. It's starting to dim!

Well brother, Jeff. We don't even have our IS/Hog FGs yet and each of us is considering a rosewood model. This is either great minds think alike or mad hysteria.

Logic says you must keep your L-10 Custom. And if body size isn't an issue for you you really don't need that rosewood FG.

Besides your IS/Hog FG is going to have the special neck with the position dots where you can see them. So I can't see you trading that in. The OM-05 decision needs to wait for the LS-03 before you trade it off at a financial loss.

I have been successfully resisting any contact with Jim regarding a surplus LS-03R since I have two great spruce and rosewood Larris with my LSV-11 and LV-10. My hidden weakness is the desire for an SD-50. So there you have it. GAS will always be with us. My advice to you is to play the hand you're being dealt.

I'm way out of my league to even comment on the sound difference between 2 FG IIIs --- IS/hog vs IS/rw

I'm told that I made the right choice with the rosewood because of my playing style which is strumming. If I were recording or doing more fingerstyle, I hear the IS/hog is better for that.

I would be inclined to hold on to your OM-05..... wait for your FG III - IS/hog --- you may be pleasantly surprised that your GASing for a FG III rosewood would be more than satisfied by ONE FG III IS/hog.

You will have an OM, a LS in your FG III and your L-10.... you've got a good variety of the body size covered in all the staple tonewoods.

Brother, you already have Larrivees in hog and rosewood very well covered. Why another rosewood?

Norman, what you really need to complete your acoustic guitar collection is a highly figured Hawaiian Koa b&s made by another respected American guitar maker with a proprietary pickup system that's one of the best in the business with a huskier voice than the FG III and do a noble and honorable act of giving a friend of yours a chance to add an IS/hog with the perfect size git for a man of smaller stature.
