I am speechless. Not only is this new model a great example of what a truly great production company can do when they put their Custom Shop hat on, the tribute DW wrote to the Larrivee family is very touching.

My hat goes off to the Larrivee family.  I agree.  Larrivee guitars have something extra.  Love that snake wood.

I'm not into snakes, but when it's wood...

In my dreams, I'd love to say, "David Wren, please send one noncutaway to Edmonton, please."  Send the bill to my wife; she buys all my gits.  :laughin:

QUESTION: Did Larrivee ever use plastic or ivoroid for bindings?  I like the fact that all the Larrivees I've ever seen have maple or rosewood binding.

IMO - all gits priced north of 1G should wood bindings. period.  What a wonderful work of art these guitars are!!!

Blue, would you and "ronmac" be the first in line should Larrivee indeed open a full fledged custom shop? I'll line up with you guys.

Beautiful! So Ron, have you spoken to the Fret yet and/or visited? I can't remember where you live, so visiting may not be possible. And...resistance is futile! :roll

I don't know what the hell snakewood is but it looks  and no doubt sounds great too.  Thank God 12-fret NEVER adds lefties to their special runs or there would be a few people around here (me) that would get into a whole lot of trouble.

Holly, I moved from TO to NS to be away from that den of debauchery. I also placed Dave on my telephone blocking list, and always keep my wallet out of reach.

I have the sickness, but I am doing the best that I can...

Ricky, I believe the 02 series had black binding (plastic?).  I agree about the wood binding, not sure why some expensive guitar makers use it.  It looks kinda cheap to me.
Now if Larrivee would only put wood binding on the fretboard.

I think Larrivee used plastic bindings on a few older guitars - I had an OM-03FM that had plastic binding, looked very nice-

Snakewood is ALOT more expensive, and probably endangered to boot -

Tad
Bunch of Larrivees - all good -
and a wife that still puts up with me, which is the best -

I may be able to make it to the Fret tomorrow.  If so, I will scope out these specimens.

If my Taylor GS Koa had rosewood or cocobolo binding in contrast to the highly figured Koa instead of the "ivoroid" - then it would have been a perfect blend of wood eye candy.  Sounds great too.

It was not until 2007 that one of Taylor's flagship rosewood guitars - the 800 series - was finally treated with maple binding and I believe it had maple binding on the fretboard markers and around the headstock which was treated with rosewood overlay but in satin finish.  I don't know why they can't give it a glossy finish on the headstock.

I hope Larrivee does not change the basic 03 specs / appointments - okay, I wouldn't complain if they put 510 Gotohs  :laughin:

I just got back from the Fret, where I played one of the Cs (I didn't check to see which number).  It's a beautiful guitar.  I love the old-fashioned rosette.  The sound struck me as very authoritative in the bass and maybe a tiny bit polite in the highs.  Lots of "sparkle", as to be expected.

I got the prices for both the Ls and the Cs, and will gladly share if you PM me.  I would say they're about what you would expect for a guitar of this level: not cheap by any means, but quite a bit cheaper than the average Martin limited edition.
