I see a puppy thread.... and seems like there are a lot of us who have dogs...

So lets dedicate a thread to our dogs and SHOW OFF our dogs!! :humour:

Our standard poodle.
we adopted her through the poodle rescue! She was kenneled by the breeder.... for 3 years... and I guess she didn't qualify for showing standards. so then this other family adopted her, but she didn't get along with their munchicans and cat...
she still has some issues.. such not listening very well, a little bit of potty training issues, eating her own fur and obsession with food

wish i could talk to ceaser millan..  he seems to know dogs really well..

and the other dogs are Lhasa apso(the black one..) that my wife had before we got married &  Maltese, that I had rescued before I got married..

sh i could talk to ceaser millan..

I'll tell you what, if you ever need advice, PM or email me. Without getting intot the whole Cesar debate, i can assure you that he is not highly regarded (polite term) among people who train dogs or animal behavioralists. You also never see follow up and many of the things he suggests are outright dangerous for all involved. Ok, I have to stop myself now before this tunrs into a whole rant.

Anyhow, I'd be happy to assist and can refer you to many things that will make you and your dog's much happier than um, alternate methods. The Sitstay.com board has some great people on it.

Standard Poodles are wonderful, smart, soft dogs. They also are notorius for food allergies, which may explain some of her behaviors. It's will take a long time but she'll come around. Imagine what being kept in a pen for your first three years of life would do to you. Often these dogs will self mutilate and it becomes self rewarding over time. She may be a dog who benefits from meds.

Anyhow, sorry, I wrote a book, it's the dog persona taking over. All three of my dogs have serious behavior issues that if in the wrong home, with the wrong approach, would have made them dangerous dogs. But most days, I wouldn't trade them in. Most days... We are like the Island of Misfit Toys, well, except these Misfits have really big teeth.

ps. Pics when I can figure out where they are..

My dogs are awesome. Well behaved, listen to me, do what they are asked... I could only wish my children could learn from them (laff).

Seems like your dogs love the pool.   :bgrin:

I wish I could have a pool in the back yard, so in the winter I could skate!!

But as soon as we move back to BC, we should be no longer than 30minutes from a lake :D

Ok, I'm gonna try again.

holly, your dogs look pretty cute!

what kind of dog is the first one?
Jeffrey

Lida is a Leonberger. They are still considered rare.  She was tied to the door outside a pound in rural Ohio. I have a friend who has an Anatolian rescue and she was kind enough to get her pulled. We thought she was 10 months because at that time she was only 64 pounds and she should have been closer to 100. Turns out she was 18 months. Now she's about 84 which just squeks by the standard.

Her ears were so infected for so long the tissue was black and being eaten up. Three months later when she got healthy she turned out to be very dog aggressive, lol. Rescue dogs, the most expensive free dog ever. Here's the Leonberger info http://www.leonbergerclubofamerica.com/ she's basically a rug at home and used to have these anxiety attacks where she'd have to be cradled. No joke. She was only 75 pounds then, but still.

It's only outside she turns into Betty Davis. Months of training and a few thousand dollars later I can walk her with a minor scene as long as the dog is across the street. Golden's for some reason, really set her off. I've had a realllly steep learning curve with all the dogs.

i have better pics but for some reason loading them is such a hassle.

Well Jeff I thought you were making a "Mystery" thread. GOD spelled backwards is DOG and all that and you are Canadian :humour:   So I thought maybe I just missed something.
I think this will be a great thread.         Danny

My fav dog park pic when Baxter could still go. No actual dogs were hurt in the making of this picture. Ok, I'll stop now, lol.

Tucker looks so serious and Cosmo looks like he hasn't a care in the world.

Tucker being a herding dog is always on watch, always thinking.  Cosmo really does not have a care in the world, he just enjoys every moment (they both do).  And we sure enjoy them.
