Allright....so I'm installing my K&K mini tonight....keep your fingers crossed.......and I got my XLR.....now I need some cables....so shoulf I get a short one to go from guitar to preamp and a longer one from Pre-amp to amp?  Or should the pre sit on top of the amp...there fore long cable to pre and short from pre to amp?  I will be playing sitting down...and mostly at open mics...I don't even own my own amp yet.....How do you configure your set up?

Any suggestions on which cables to buy?

Thanks

Hi Blue, for shows i use the following: guitar -> 6' cable -> XLR Preamp -> 6" jumper cable -> Buss TU 2 tuner -> 10' or 15' cable to PA or AMP.

At open mics it depends on how many songs they let me do.  If it's just 10 or 15 minutes,  I usually just tune up before I go on and plug straight into the PA.

Thanks Dave...a 6 footer and a 12-15 footer seem about right...Thankfully I'll be staying put and not tripping over everything!!

Also...since we will have virtually the same rig... :thumb..I only hope mine sounds as good.......what kind of settings do you use for your XLR?  Also when you say straight to the PA...do you mean without the XLR...or just without the tuner in between?

Cheers,

Hey Blue,

I don't have the XLR preamp but I keep mine, the older Pure Preamp, clipped on my belt and run a 1 foot cable from my guitar in to the "in" on the preamp.  Then I run a 15 or 20 ft cable from the "out" to my Crate Gunnison amp.

what kind of settings do you use for your XLR?
Bass at 12:00, mid at 9:00, treible at 12:00.  (12:00 being white line pionts straight up) So bassicaly just back the mids off a bit.  Oh, and always trigger the Phase button a couple times to find out which setting sounds best. Depending on the room, that's all you need to do to kill the rare occurrance of feedback. Sometimes the Phase makes a huge difference (especially when you are pushing the volume a bit), sometimes none at all.  You don't need much gain, either. I usually run mine just a little up from zero - say 9 or 10 o'clock.

Thanks Denis and Dave....I think I'll take my rig to a couple of shops this weekend and play around with amps...I won't be buying one any time soon but it will be fun to hear Mary Helen Amplified.

Have fun, Blue!  Sometimes its hard to tell how an amp really sounds when you are sitting right next to it.  Get some pme to play Mary Helen for you and walk around the shop to listen.  Wish I were going with you!
