Hi all,

I've been throwing around the idea of "playing out" again--just coffee shops, open mics, etc....And I have no clue about vocal microphones.  Can anyone give me any advice?  I have a Crate CA30DG Taos Acoustic amp that has an extra channel that I'd like to employ for the time being, just for practice.  This is a great sounding amp, btw!

I'm looking for something solid, reliable, well-made, not outrageously expensive, and if possible, something that I can use to mic my guitar as well when I'm just goofing around.  Does such a thing exist?  If so, what do they call it?  Do I need to know anything else, "spec-wise"?
Thank you all for your help.

You need look no further than the Shure SM58.  They sound great and are indestructible.

I have a SM58 and a PG58 and I can't tell the difference, except the PG58 is quite a bit less expensive. Check out eBay, that is where I got both of mine and if you are patient you can get a really good deal.

Craigslist is a good place to pick up deals as well. I picked up five SM-57's for mic'ing amps for less than $40 each.

Be cautious when buying new SM57 and SM58 on EBay. There are a lot of counterfeit products out there. They look like the real thing, but they aren't.

Also be wary of Sennheiser product. I just bought a E845 for a good price off EBay and it is counterfeit!
