Just got my Larrivee strap, trouble putting it on.

I've never had a strap for an acoustic guitar, but I just purchased one from Larrivee Wearables (this one: click).

Sounds really dumb, but I'm having a hard time getting it on.  It was pretty difficult to get it on the back of the guitar, and I'm not even sure if it's all the on there still (some of the corners of the leather are sticking up, instead of tucked in behind the input jack, as I would intuitively think it should be.

Also, the black shoelace looking things tied to the other end, are those just to help when threading through the strap holes when changing sizes?  Or is there something I should know about them?

The shoelaces are for tying the strap on if you don't have a strap button.

As for the strap jack, I just mashed mine on there and kept working it around and around until the leather started to give. I might have had to mash the edges in where it was sticking out. It's been fine ever since, it never falls off. And I like to walk around with it on my back - see sig. pic

shout 'Freebird' one more time. see what happens.

I believe I wrote this in response to a strap issue a while back, but here is what I did.
My Larrivee strap was very stiff, it is a nice heavy leather. I soaked the end in warm (not hot) water for about 15 minutes.
The leather was nice and soft. I then streched the button hole over a "AA" battery. (It was the size I wanted). I let the strap dry over night, the hole was then just the right size for a nice snug fit over the end pin. My guitar does not have an input jack so you may need to use something a tad bigger than a battery.

I have to report that after reading this I tried it with my new Larrivee strap and it worked great. Very easy to install the strap now, but also easy to remove it. I say this because even though I like the way it worked, I would not trust it to hold if I slung the guitar over my shoulder like aaron does. Just FYI.

Happy to hear it worked for you, I got the idea from my childhood when we would soak our leather skates in water and then wear them until they dried.
(I am not Canadian, but played youth hockey)  :bgrin: Also used to soak leather bicycle seats and ride them until dry, they formed well to the butt.

The only guitar I sling over my shoulder like Aaron has a locking strap button. It is my guitar I use for camping and walking around festivals.
I did forget to say I leave the battery in the strap hole while the strap dries.

I assumed that. Thanks again for the idea.

I have one of each of the original Larrivee straps. To get them to fit over the end pin/jack, I first soaked the strap, then I took a razor knife and enlarged the hole. Took a little time but it works just fine.

Just looking at that picture has always made me nervous and caused a tingle in my loins, like peering off a 1000 ft cliff. 1 slip from strap or carrier could be a real charactor adder.

Thanks for the link...new strap in the mail and on its way.

And I don't think I could hang my Larrivee up like that either. I've carried a Seagull that way but have yet to have too many homebrews to go with the good stuff.
Be Prepared...

I have 16 guitars and a strap on each of them.  The strap buttons for Larrivee and Taylor are almost a half inch across.  The strap holes are usually 1/4 inch.  I bought a leather punch to enlarge the whole.  Worked great and only took a minute to fix it.
