Just bought a new L-09-12 (it'll be here in 2 weeks).

Anyhoo, have y'all experimented with capos for your Larivees?

Do any brands (Paige, Kyser, Shubb) work best with the Larrivee necks?

Any thoughts on best one for my Larrivee 12-string?

Thanx to all in advance!

For the 12-string, get a Shubb.

I'm a fan of G7th capos for six-strings, but their 12-string capo was a terrible disappointment on my Larrivee.  It wouldn't grip strongly enough on the first fret (though it was fine further up the neck).  The Shubb has no such problem.

have a chub for shubbs for a long time, but my shubb 12er has a kinda dead spot right in the middle strings- you kinda have to crank it a little harder than you normally would and everything is fine.  it only happened on the 3-5th frets, i think.  odd.

I forgot about the Planet Waves NS.  That's a really great capo.  Works just as well on a 6 or a 12.

The Paige looks pretty cool, but I've never tried one.

Best capo IMO: PW NS. Works great on both 6 & 12 stringers.

This is a good capo, but NOT if you have an SD series Larrivee. The only capo I'm even a little happy with is the G7 12 string capo 'cause it's the only capo long enough to capo my SD on the 7th fret. The planet waves can barely handle the third fret on my SD. The regular G7 is too short as well, that's why the only capo I've found that's any good is the G7 12 string capo.
Guitars: Larrivee P-05; National Resphonic Style 2 Squareneck;      National Resophonic 12-fret "B"; Dupont MD-50;
Lazy River Weissenborn; Robert Sayers custom flat-top;

Funnily enough, even though I've retired my G7th 12-string capo for 12-string use, I've repurposed it to use with my Gibson Chet Atkins Tennessean, which has a very wide fingerboard.  It's perfect for that.

I have a Paige for my six strings and it works great and it is very small. But I would check on whether it will fit the fingerboard. I can't get mine past the seventh fret on one Larrivee and the sixth fret on the other. I do like the idea they have for the 12 strings, those extra bands around the top for the smaller gauge strings makes a lot of sense. You wouldn't have to crank down on the adjuster and pull the larger strings sharp in order it get a good tone on the smaller strings. I have noticed though that the tuning stays perfect wherever I put the capo, that was not the case for the Kyser.

I'll chime in for the Dunlop. I used to use Keyser, but the Dunlop is quicker, easier, and less invasive. I'm not a fan of most of the screw type capos, only because my requirement for capo use is "quick on, quick off". Niether of my 12 strings had problems with either the Keyser or the Dunlop.

Dale, which dunlop model do you use?

The Dunlop Trigger Capo...
I don't know if it is "the best" capo, but it is very quick and easy to apply and remove and seems to work great for me.

I use a G-7 on my L-10 and it works great, I definitely recommend it

If you get the dunlap be careful . Mine slipped while changing between songs and scratched the back of my neck on my L-03 claro walnut .So I went out and got a planet waves that is quick and holds nice with no slipping and easy on the neck.
For 15 bucks its a nice capo.

Regarding SD 60/50-the PW NS also comes in classical size, that fits that well.  I had to speical order from my dealer as they typically only stocked the 6 string version. Use one on my SD and one for my Larrivee classical.

I agree with the Planet Waves NS. I have an OM-03-12R and it works great on it. -- I haven't tried the new combination version of the NS that combines the screw type with the clamp type capo. Anybody else tried it?

The Paige will work also but the little tubes for the treble strings need to be tweaked as you move up the fingerboard. And the Paige will only work up to about the 5th fret. I liked it better as a six-string capo.

I just bought the Planetwaves Dual Action Capo. Having read such rave reviews about it, I took the plunge. Oh, and my guitar is recently accquired Lv-10.

I must say I am extremely disappointed. Not only is the tone considerably dampened (as compared to my Nashville G7 trigger capo), there is still some buzzing when I clamp it down on the first fret. So currently, my G7th trigger capo sounds good but can't capo the 1st and 2nd frets of my low action L-10; and the PW dual action robs the guitar of lots of its tone although it can do an okay job of fretting the first and 2nd frets.

Any suggestions for a good capo suitable for the Lv-10?

Zen;

I use the G7 performance capo on my OM19, and the G7 Nashville on the Martin D18.... i can get the G7 Nashville to work on the OM, but it takes abit-0-futz'n about, and the performance capo just works.. i think it may have something to do with the compound radius of the Larrivee fretboard?

On my 12 string Gibbie (60's pin bridge B45-12)i use the Bird of Paradise capo

Long time happy user of Shubb.

Have a Paige which is too small for a Larrivee "L" neck

Picked up the Planet Waves NS per commets here and happy with it, but it does have to be adjusted each time you use it.

Many also mention the Shubb 12 string model, and I'm curious if the Classical version might be a better alternative.

I use a G7 Performance Capo for an acoustic six string (since 2006) and It has been the best capo that I have ever used.    :smile:
