Edit: now on eBay... see post below.

I just got this guitar in a trade, and thought it would be a keeper.  It is exactly what I was hoping for in a Gibson jumbo.

In the end, though, the pull of cedar tops and custom "fingerstyle" guitars is just too strong for me to resist.  I'm working on having another guitar built, and like many of those who are afflicted with GAS, it's "one guitar out before the new one comes in."  The other guitars I own are not going anywhere, so the Gibby has to serve as the sacrificial lamb.

The J-185 is a "jumbo," but size-wise is more equivalent to a grand auditorium or small jumbo--the lower bout is 16" instead of the 17" that you'll find on the SJ-200 and jumbos from Taylor, Guild, etc.

The body is a beautifully flamed maple, and it delivers the kind of tone you'd expect from a maple Gibson jumbo: loud, articulate, and a bit warmer than, say, a Taylor maple jumbo would be.  In fact, the J-185 seems to be a good compromise between the "Taylor sound" and the "Martin sound."  Some people think that the J-185's mahogany neck gives it a smoother, warmer tone than a jumbo that is all maple.

The guitar is in near-mint condition, with no issues whatsoever, and comes with the original Gibson hardshell case.  An L.R. Baggs Active Element pickup has been added (with a volume control tucked just inside the soundhole), so it's ready to plug and play.

Here's one picture... you can see some more here.  I can also email higher-resolution photos to anyone who is interested.

The J-185 is now listed on eBay, with no reserve and a starting bid of $1.00.  Lots of new pictures, too!  :)
