24 series thoughts

Hi,

Anyone have a Larrivee 24 series guitar? If so, what model and thoughts?

I'm looking for a 24.75ish scale guitar and  j45 are a bit too much. I really like Larrivee guitars so just curious.

Sorry, not me. But I always have a feeling that an L-24 would come close to the sound and feel of a J-45. And by close, I mean SUPERIOR.

I don't own one as I prefer standard scale length. They look great, however. I wish Larrivee would offer the Adirondack top on all their instruments. I'm wondering if this Adi top combined with the short scale would just make the instrument equal to a Sitka top with standard scale length.

Adirondack is my preferred spruce, hands down.

In May 2024 I ordered a 00-24 shortly after they were introduced and it was delivered in early October 24 with the following enhancements from the standard model:

1) Mahogany top in place of the Adirondack spruce top
2) Anthem SL Pickup installed at the factory
3) Archtop case (Fits like a glove)
4) Bridge Pins with abalone dots to match the vine headstock inlay. I bought those during the 2024 Black Friday sale)

When John called me in late September 24 to tell me my guitar was finished, he recommended that I play it for a few weeks before changing strings or tweaking the setup. I followed his advice and I strung it up with Martin Monel Retros. It plays like a dream. While I haven't played a 24 series guitar with an Adirondack top, I can say that my guitar is ideally suited for a mahogany top, at least to my ear. The radial wood rosette looks great as does the vine headstock inlay, pyramid bridge and tulip tuners. I believe they have switched to open backed tuners but I like the look of the tulip tuners just fine. With exception of my parlor which has a regular flat hardshell case, I upgraded to an archtop case for all of my Larrivees which was well worth the $100 upcharge.

I generally play my 12 fret guitars in standard tuning or dropped D but they will handle open tunings too. The 00-24 is my third 12 fret Larrivee and all three guitars have a different scale length, body size (Parlor, LSV, 00) and different wood combination (Sitka/Flamed Maple, Moonwood/Walnut, All Mahogany). These guitars are primarily used for fingerstyle so none of them have a pickguard either that was left off at my request. I also own two dreadnoughts, an OM (all 14 fret, 25.5" scale) and a short scale 000 made by other companies and a Larrivee 12 string. While it's hard to pick a favorite Larrivee product, the 24 series will hold its own with any of the other models past or present. John also arranged a factory visit with Matthew in late June 2024 so I could see the progress on my guitar. It's pretty cool to hold the unfinished top, back, sides and samples of the bracing of your guitar in your hands.

My OOV is a 24.75 scale and the difference tonally as well as playing feel isn't significant IMHO, but then GAS doesn't listen to facts or logic, so go for it!
