One of the little details that I love to see on my 00-40R is the angled base on the nut.  I feel like this is a new technique, as the guitar was only built about 1 year 4 months ago.  I think it makes good technical sense with the "fulcrum like" purpose of the nut right where the headstock angle begins and downward force is applied at a better angle.  I also ponder if it allows the headstock to be slightly shorter, since the angle begins at the front of the nut, rather than at the back.  Could be a way to save mahogany, one tiny bit at a time.  Anyway, I love the look, and picture is attached:

I personally feel it is more for appearance than purpose. The neck essentially has two angles on top and this simply follows the headstock angle rather than acting like an extension of the fret board. It also makes aesthetic sense being that the nut slopes at the top. Both ways are fine. As someone who has replaced a number of guitar nuts, I actually don't like the angled nut slot as it makes nut replacement and removal a little more difficult. And, some techs will use more than just a drop of glue on a nut. If someone does that with this type of nut and you may need a router to remove it in the future (not something Larrivee would do, but there's a lot of bad techs out there). All that said, I admire the craftsmanship as it gives a clean look and creates that tidy little pocket. Larrivee takes pride in their joinery and you can see that in things like the dovetail neck joint, wood binding, and this nut slot, as you pointed out.

Isn't this one of the "new" features Martin is advertising in their 17 series along with GE bracing etc. for this year.

I believe Martin may have been the first to use the angle bottom nut as I've not seen it on classicals. They certainly aren't taking it from another acoustic maker. They did switch to flat a while back but the angle bottom is "their thing".

I can't ever remember seeing an angled base on a nut like that on any acoustic, I do like it though, nice ( Maple?) fretboard binding by the way.

Yep, that's maple! I love Larrivee neck binding. Looks so classy and perfect.
