Depending on how one looks at it, the "copies" they're making are great or terrible. I'm actually fond of the original designs they are making.   But unfortunately, It seems like every time someone brings them up on the AGF the thread gets heated or political (or both) and then closed.
One of the reasons they get closed is that there's people who aggressively spam glowing Hsienmo feedback, seemingly paid or compensated. I've seen some of these threads before they deleted and they feel like those phony Amazon reviews that are obviously not genuine. Or, they are threads where people are viciously attacking the site, claiming anti-China bias (which makes no sense given that other Chinese guitars are freely discussed).
What I mentioned about Halcyons quickly showing up on the used market is 10x worse with Hsienmo. I not only see recent models up for sale, but the same ones being back on AGF within weeks of being sold on the used market, sometimes sold multiple times in a year. The best guitars I've owned I bought used so I am not one of these people who think people always hold onto "the good ones". But, seeing multiple people sell the same guitars shortly after buying them signals huge red flags for me.

Quote from: B0WIE on December 13, 2024, 09:49:29 AMThe thing that scares me about Halcyons is how many nearly new ones I've seen offered up on AGF. I never think of a guitar as bad just because someone is selling it. But, it feels like there's a difference between expectation and reality for a lot of people just based on the number I've seen offered up after receipt. In fairness, I see this a lot with bang for the buck builds so it's not just them. Maybe it just comes down to "no free lunch".

Oh I hadn't noticed!! :o

Thanks for the info.  I don't ever look at the classifieds over there so I've not noticed the Hsienmos being sold like that.  There are plenty of pretty guitars that don't play or sound good.  These might very well be in that camp. Lipstick on a hog, as my old dad used to say.  But I really love the design of a few of the models. For a long time I've wanted a cutaway 14-fretter sans electronics and they are very hard to find.

Here is one of the Hsienmo original designs that I really like.  Very classy look.

Bought and sold them all, which pretty much supports the dream concept.

Pretty much after a Guild F-412 or JF-30 12- string at the moment, but there are not many for sale around my neck of the woods at the moment.

Well, it isn't going to happen, but I've been attracted to the Gibson Hummingbird. My dealer likes Gibson but told me he thinks the Hummingbird is more of a strummer instrument. I think it works well both ways. Here is a nice demo video of the instrument without the hotdog playing so many do to show their skills instead of the instruments voice.

I'd take any small body Collins or Froggy Bottom guitar.

Greenfield G4 Baritone. Superb note separation, something most baritones lack.

Over the years I have owned three baritones. Never more than one at a time, of course.
Larrivee builds a very nice baritone.
I do enjoy visiting Dream Guitars on occasion, just for laughs.
If you're thinking about trading your house for a guitar, Dream Guitars has you covered.

I went to Greenfield Guitars and couldn't believe the prices. I'm sure they are nice instruments, but the only feature that interested me was the raised fretboard above the neck join. I've seen this on some classical guitars and wonder if it improves sound or just makes the higher frets more accessible.
