I was in my local the other day and needed some strings.  On a whim I grabbed a set of JP PB Lights, and I'll be darned if they aren't some of the best strings I've ever used.  Strings don't get more plain-Jane than these but they really do deliver.  Granted, they don't last long, but while they do they are really great.

I tune down a whole step and was concerned they would not handle that but they do just fine.  They seem to be a tad heavier than average Lights.

It had probably been twenty years since I'd used a set of JPs.  I think I'm converted!

They were my absolute goto's for years and then I started having issues with rusty strings.  It was back when I was going to Guitar Center and I think they just bought so many and sold so few that they had older sets.  I went back to D'Addarios and have been happy ever since.  John was a regular contributor to RMMGA for years before he passed.  He was a world of knowledge...  and I still prefer his/their armrests.  Maybe time to give them another try, though I really do like the airtight packaging of D'Addarios.  I was playing a lot more back then and Pearse always seemed to last a couple weeks longer than others.

When I first got my Larrivee (20 years ago!) I exclusively used EJ16s from D'A.  I don't remember why I switched but I should probably try them again at some point.   For over ten years I used those bulk, unlabeled Martin strings but at some point wanted to try something new.  I also switched from mediums to lights again at some point.  Sometimes getting new strings and finding great ones is almost like getting a new guitar.

To me, they sound similar to the standard DAddarios. Good strings that sound nice after a few hours play (once the odd overtones mellow out) and are pleasant for about 5 days until they become dull. For people who don't mind changing strings, or whose body chemistry doesn't wear them out, I think they're excellent. I'm at a point where I just hate changing strings (made worse by some of my instruments being expensive so I have to be really careful) and I don't like strings that sound different every couple days.

That said, I still think of them as a great option for a live gig or recording session. The tone in those first few days is wonderful.

Absolutely, there are a few days in a stretch when the JPs are just excellent.  Then they dull out pretty quick.
