Pulling the trigger

Spoke with John Jr on the phone yesterday.  I haven't owned a dread for many years now and the reason has always been that most dreads, no matter the brand, have a 1 11/16" nut.  Being mostly a fingerstyle player, my preference is a wider nut, I love 1 3/4".  I was thinking a standard D-18.  Forward shifted, scalloped bracing, 1 3/4", sitka and mahogany, but wow, they're not cheap considering it's just a "standard" series Martin.  I decided to use my Larrivee artist privilege again and go for a brand new D-40 with a wider nut.  Same price as any other D-40, just need to wait for them to make one.  With Covid, everything is taking longer.  John said it could be about 6 months.  I'll wait....

I've always been a big fan of Larrivee's mahogany guitars.  I'm sure this one will go well with my custom 12 fret LV-03 and my LS-03R classical.

Congrats, I'm betting it'll be less than 6 months. :winkin:

Looking forward to the review.

I did not purchase it, but I did play a Larrivee D-05 (mahogany back) for long time in a local store a few months ago.  Holy cow, what an incredible guitar.  I have no doubt you will be excited with it once it is done!

Good move. I think Larrivee dreads in general sound a lot more articulate than a D18. They somehow don't get the same praise as other Larrivee models but with all the ones I've bought and sold, I've kept two Ds.

Right on Bowie, and you and I know how amazing our D09's Brazilians are!

If someone gave me a Brazilian rosewood guitar, I would sell it.  Then I would have enough to buy at least 2 more mahogany guitars
