Howdy all, I dont get to hang out here enough.

Played five or six nice acoustic Larrivee's recently (no electrics here). Surprisingly, they were not as consistent (in sound quailty only) as I have found in the past, not to say they were not good.

An L03 mahogany cutaway was outstanding and sharp right out of the gate and I dont usually go for the L neck.
A D-50 that was not for me.
An OM-10 (I think) BRAZILLIAN ROSEWOOD. This was the one folks. I thought it was glued to my hands and my wife was afraid that she was not going to be able to compete with her from the look in my eyes. The sound would amaze anyone!
An OM-10 tree of life that was actually substandard in tonal qualities IMO. (I know I didnt want to go there)

There was another one or two, but I am surprised that I did not get the fine experience I expected after playing these overall. Has Larrivee ever made the D with a cutaway?

BTW.....I'm soliciting handfuls of cash on that new OM-10BR for Christmas  :arrow

Ah... You went to Wilcutts. I was there last week when visiting. Did you go upstairs? I didn't this time but in the past they've had a couple really nice Larrivee's up there.

I'm just sayin you might ask them next time you're there if they have anything tucked away upstairs in the private playin room. :beer

Flatlander or anyone else interested, I was not aware that they have a warehouse across the street with many new guitars including Larrivee and Collings! These can be inspected for the serious buyer. I found out when asking them if they ever get a Collings in.

I don't know if they still have it, but they've had an L-03 that was tempting me for a long time. It was hang-tagged (by a store employee) as an L-03SP, but I'm pretty sure it was actually mahogany B&S (also what Bob claimed, fwiw). The top had some serious bear claw all over. The back (don't remember about the sides) had some white mineralization flecks. The pickguard was the older clear style. I do like the bear claw, don't like the mineralization, and strongly prefer the clear pickguards. I do usually prefer the sound of mahogany over rosewood, but have no bias against sapele. With those disclaimers, it was alway the one that sang to me :)

I was seriously debating between that guitar and a couple of hog tops (one of which sold just as I decided to buy it), but then an SD-03 became available ....

Wilcutts... A couple of weeks back I sold my 12 string. So I needed a replacement. One option, I thought, was a Larrivee L-09 maple 12 string Wilcutts had. I dropped a message through their website with the response that they will be contacting me.... never did. I called and the guy said 'we're too busy to pull that guitar out to tell you about it' I told him I left a message for them and he said that's good enough... 'we'll be in touch'.

Never heard from them about the Larrivee.

I bought a D12-28 elsewhere.

When I played my D10 Brazilian the first time, I didn't let it out of my hands either.  It came home with me.
Like you said, the sound of it is amazing.

Yea, they are too busy and I had a little incident trying to buy remotely too. Best to go in person.

That;s why I didn't even pick up the Braz when I was there. Son out of high school in May. No time to spend potential college money.....We do get to know ourselves as we get old anyway. Never left jones'n with L-10 though.
