Fraunhofer institute researching a new twist on piezo-type pickups

I see many potentials here:  combo acoustic pickup and midi pickup all in one - possibly even being used as a bridge plate - need more details but it's interesting nonetheless.

True - The entire issue with live use is whether or not one can separate the vibration due to playing from air vibration from PA systems. This is why piezo and bridgeplate transducers work quite well in that regard, they do that separation because the local string induced vibration is so much larger than air induced, and why microphones in general have a difficult time.  However it's also a reason why they don't sound as natural - the frequency content mix is always odd compared to what you hear through the air.

understood.Though I must admit I'm not really a fan of any of the recording programs that are available they always sound sterile.Its way I still like tape.I've got an old blackface Allisse adat,still digital but I like it.
