I drive this way to work each day.

The building was from a church a quarter mile away.
Its a portable classroom.
The creek is usually 15 feet wide, maybe a foot deep and flows underneath I-24.

The building floated down the flooded creek turned river,
came alongside I-24 - was in 20 feet or so of water and then snagged the guard rail.
This pulled it down in the back and then the current began to pull the roof off.

It is our worst flooding here since 1937.
The Grand ole Opry house is flooded and the Opry hotel complex.
The tourist area in downtown Nashville next to the river is flooded....
The Titans football stadium is being threatened...the tailgate party area is flooded.
Middle Tennessee had 14 -24 inches of rain in 2 days.

My small town was shut down - police blocked roads in and out - and our electricty was out for about 4 hours.
So - I prayed and then played........... ACOUSTIC guitar and worked on some praise song arrangements - no electricty needed  :bgrin:

Larry,

It's scary to think that you can drive through a town and be hard pressed to remember if it even has a river in it. Everyone, I'm sure, is hoping for the best; the loss of life has been incredible.

Take care, we're thinking of you and your fellow Nashvillians (is that what you like to be called?)

Larry, I see the videos on the news & can't even imagine how people are handling this. My thoughts are with you & hope the worst is over. The cat doesn't look too happy either. That shot of the school was just unimaginable, plus all of the police blocking roads. Like you said, pray & play?

thanks Jeff,
folks in the area have a big heart and there is a lot of community support during times like these,

There are lots of agencies who help and of course many churches and community organizations -

A lot of media attention focuses on the big government agencies but its really the local people - neighbor helping neighbor -
who usually help out first and get a lot done.

There were many, many private citizens using their own boats to rescue people from their flooded homes and cars during this time
and providing them a place to stay.

The river has creasted and the skys are blue -
the biggest threat at this time is to the public water supply.
Only one station is working and it is at risk.

Amen to that. It's very nice to hear first hand reports of folks helping each other out. I hope you guy and gals get back to pre flood conditions as soon as possible. Good luck!

Wow, that's some pretty crazy sh!t!!!  You guys down south have your hands full right now.  I hope this doesn't get overshadowed with the oil spill in the Gulf.

Believe it or not, it snowed here on Vancouver Island ~ 2nd time this winter/spring.  Where's the warm weather???

It's just normal weather patterns....you know, mother Earth being mother Earth.  It lets you know how puny and insignificant we humans really are.....PS....you forgot the icelandic volcano.....

Here's why I love this town...spent today helping a songwriter buddy who's house was destroyed this weekend tear out walls, carpet, pull out furniture, referigerators...etc. We took a break and he was telling me that when the water came, it was so fast that one minute he was stepping on damp carpet, the next it was chest high. He recounted the dramatic story of his rescue by complete strangers with a boat...just him, his cat and the clothes he had on. He didn't even have shoes on...he lost everything. I took him aside and said "Look man, you're a songwriter...you can't be without a guitar, so I brought one of mine that I want you to have..." He looked at me incredulously and said "What are you...crazy??? I saved all my guitars! Threw them all in the attic crawl space!!"

:roll

The people in THIS town have their priorities straight, right? As I was leaving, he asked me: "By the way, what kind of guitar did I give up...was it a Larrivee?" I said "What are you crazy???...it's my Ibanez Artwood!"

400 inmates in the Nashville jail were volunteers to build sand bags to save the Nashville water plant

It was very close but it worked. So we did not have to resort to bottled water.

One guy who was serving time for not making support payments said he was glad to help in any way he could.

Let's see - a guy can not make enough money to pay the court ordered amount
gets put in jail

dah- how is he suppose to make money while in jail ????

So he helps out by saving Nashville from being out of safe water-
God bless you sir.
