Taylor guitars is bringing it's road show to West Palm Beach on the twentythird of March. Me and a  guitar playing buddy of mine will be attending. It looks to be a fun night. Has anyone out there been to a Taylor road show ?

My sons and I went to one locally last November and got to play a lot of guitars that you wouldn't normally see in a guitar store. Played the baritone and a couple of nice 12 string jumbos. They have a lot of interesting stories to tell about construction, wood selection and body size. The only drawback was that there were a lot of people playing so it was  little hectic.

These guys are builders and players.

Jim Holler just picked up Taylor and has them coming to Western NY in a few months. I will be there again.

You have to give credit to Taylor for supporting there dealers, artists and customers. Taylor's " wood & steel " magazine is excellent. It does a great job keeping there customers informed of new developments and products. I read somewhere that Bob Taylor refers to John Larrivee as his " guitar building buddy ". I hope to play the new Baritone and 12 fret model at the Road show.

Not sure if this is a Taylor Road Show but Doyle Dykes is coming to Gonzales, LA. on April 2 for a demo show. Lots of Taylor guitars and company reps. I play a Larrivee, bur sure do respect Doyle's playing.

Last year Taylor did come out with a limited edition 35th anniversary 12 fret slot head guitar. Bob Taylor likes the sound of this guitar so much he added it to the 2010 Taylor line. In the fall issue of Wood & Steel Bob Taylor described the tone of this guitar to be like that of a vintage Martin. Interesting.

Thank you  :+1:

I must check into this -   I hope it has that nice Taylor neck profile I like  (instead of the mod- V)
I hope they bring one with them to the Road Show.

I checked out the Taylor 12 fret
http://www.taylorguitars.com/Guitars/Limiteds/35thAnniversary/12Fret/

If I come up with a spare $7,000 maybe I'll pick one up  :rolleye:

I looked through their specs and did not see any mention of what neck profile is used.
99.99 % of similar guitars I've seen , have mod-V.
I would requrie anything but mod-v.

They have a 1 3/4 nut -  I'd like to see 1 13/16 or 1 7/8 on a vintage type finger style guitar like this.
Perhaps a custom order for a 1 7/8 nut could be made.
I checked on that a couple of years ago and I think it was something like $700  - ridiculous

Once upon a time the American car industry ignored the young Asian upstarts -
....our domestic guitar companies could take a lesson from what happened.

I went to the Taylor road show last night. The Taylor rep explained the difference in body types and tonewoods. A superb guitarist was on hand to demonstrate the sound differences between each model. There was also a full demonstration of Taylor's electric line. In the end the best part was playing a bunch of very nice guitars. A $10,000 custom sinker redwood topped guitar was the looker of the group. The guitar that spoke to me was indeed the 12 fret. The production model can be had for under $2,700. That's not chump change but better then 7 grand. Still, my beloved Larrivee really holds it's own against much pricer guitars.

I made it to a Taylor road show last year; it was fun and a great learning experience.  I learned that IMHO the Taylor koa guitars are like gorgeous, but dumb girls.  They look stunning, but have no personality.  I really like their GS model.  Their road show is going to be in Torrington, CT about a mile from my son's house.  I hope he goes.  I know he'll love it.

Beauty is in the ear of the behearer (sick ) never the less I have played several Koa topped guitars and they all sounded dead to me. Koa is a hardwood so it's good for back and sides but not for a sound board. There is a reason why there are no rosewood sound boards as Hard woods reflect sound. Still, Koa is very attractive and may work well for those who plug in.

I could not find the 'production model' on their web site - only the anniversary model at $7,000.
Do you have a link ?

I'm going to their show here in Nashville next week.
....really looking forward to the discussion and demos of the various woods.

I also went to the road show in Jacksonville March 23rd - it was a good deal and the guitarist that masmusic mentioned could really hit a lick.  Highlight of the show for me were the baritones - he demo'd both the 6 string and 8 string.  The low sounds that come out of them are great.  The Taylor 12-fret was a very nice instrument, but of course I'll put my F-III's right up there with it.

As far as Koa....you have to play it and let it age out more than any other top wood. I have a 2007 424 ce sl that the sound keeps on warming up the more it gets played. You get more nuance out of the Koa but you have to like that tonal difference.......not for everyone.
