Hey Larrivee Partners--Thanks to some great advice from Rob and the rest of you, I clinched a deal on a swell new Corona D-40 Guild this weekend. These models are going fast and Guild is not producing the American versions of this model this year, so I jumped on this one. I made a great trade-in deal on my Martin, which has been collecting dust since I brought the Larrivee home a few months ago. Boy, there is a lot of controversy about the New Guilds when it comes to the Fender buyout and I checked this one out in every way I could. But, even if it falls apart next year, it will be worth the rush of the way it plays and sounds. It has the Fishman pickup and a unique sound. If I had the extra money, I would be buying a D-55 from Rob. But, I need to save for my OM-03R too!!! ( I know, extreme GAS!!)
The action on these guitars is awesome and so is the sound. What a deal to have a Larrivee and a Guild.
So, Rob, what strings do you like on your Guild? I know you run heavies, but what brands do you like? I will be running lights on this baby.

There is no question that Guilds could be built differently, less tank-like, lighter bracing, etc.  The question is not whether they can be changed to sound better but whether that is a good thing.  I believe it would be unfortunate to loose that essential "Guild"-ness that distinguishes these guitars from the rest of the pack.  I fear that is what Fender is trying to do in the name of greater appeal.

Fred I'm using Dean Markley vintage bronze Go with the CL12's from them,a very nice string.

Hey, thanks Rob. How do those Markley strings differ from the Alchemy strings? That is what I am running on my Larrivee and will string up a set on the Guild today.
I think this Guild still has the "sound" you are talking about. But, yes Fender Machine is scary when it comes to the future of Guild and, if the rumors are even true, if they acquire another company like Tacoma.

We use the alchemy string's on all the shop guitars.I don't have anything against them I rather like them.I just an old stick in the mud.Plus I can't get the 14 and 18 I need to change out the high E and the B.

Thanks, Rob. I remember your post about the shop guitars getting Alchemy. I really like them and I hope they aren't too hard on the old frets.
Again, thanks for all of you help Rob!

My husband's current favorite on his JF30-12 is the Markley vintage bronze strings. That guitar sounds amazing! I couldn't take the size or weight, but he loves it. (plays it sitting down, though, since the surgery)

I play my Guild JF30/12 sitting down but I'm really kinda round in front and it's the only way for me.If I stand it sticks out to far to play. ;)

Well, this just proves the value of networking. I had no idea these strings were so cool until a local dealer put them in my hand. Rob and Deb just confirm it for me. Wow, you both have JF-30's in the family--awesome.
My stepdaughter just put a 70's F-50 (?) on lay-a-way.
Thanks for the Guild-Larrivee fix for the day.
