at 116 yen to the US dollar today, works out to a few cents I guess. Gonna cost more to get it here but even if it turns out to a parts guitar it`s a bargain, the saddle alone is worth more. Label says hand made and Nagoya is the place where many great old acoustics were made in that day so may tunr out to be a sleeper...we`ll see in a few days.

Nice binding. Nice frets. Beautiful wood! If thats solid wood I'm changing your name to Stinker!

picked up another the day after for 100 yen. It arrived before the 21 yen guitar did so when it gets here I`ll take pics of both together.
Think I`ll be sending the 100 yener to my nephew for Christmas...it`s looks like a new guitar and dates to 1979, believe it has laminated back and sides but he`s a teenager and may not be ready to appreciate an all solid wood, more delicate acoustic yet...you know the kids and their stickers `n stuff eh.

they`re here. One on the left was 100 yen and all laminate but in real nice condition. One on the right is the 21 yen guitar and if I had to bet I`d say it`s all solid, grain matches inside and out and at the very least it`s easy to see the top is certainly solid. Only thing with the 21 yen model is it has a couple of fret ends that need filing but other than that it`s very nice and will not beused for parts..

Where did you get these?  I just got back from a 2 week trip to Shanghai China, and I was looking for something similar - a cheapo classical that I could even sacrifice to the baggage handler if so needed.  I never found anything.  Found plenty of cheapo steel strings with painted non-radiused fretboards and what seemed like cardboard tops and sides, but no classical beauties like these.

shoulda stopped in Japan.

I had 2 layovers in Narita airport of about 1 hour each!  Otherwise, I would have went shopping.  Maybe next time, I can work out a 1 day stay - then expect a PM from me pointing the way to the shops!

you should know I`m not in Tokyo, not at all familiar with shops down there. Only been to Ochnomizu once...but do want to go back, just too much to see in the couple of hours I was there...wife was waiting for me. Get most of my guitars on line.

I found a guy selling a Harmony model 178, supposedly made in the 60's.

Q1.  Is this a guitar worth having?
Q2.  How much should I expect to pay for it?  (if we aren't supposed to discuss prices here, then PM me if you have an idea)
