I've played both of these guitars and love them both unplugged and played quitely but I have never plugged either in or even driven them hard in the guitar store to see if they break up at all under heavy strumming.  Is there a huge difference in the volume and projection between the two guitars?  I know the Taylor x10 dred is a boomier more powerful typical compared to the x14 GA Taylors but at the same time, Taylor braces the x10 heavier.  I've heard that Larrivee dreds are braced lighter and factory setup with lights on it.

With all of this said, could somebody descrive to me if the OM-03R with a nice UST will fall short of the D-03R in a moderate volume acoustic band setting with drums and bass going too.

Hi. I thought Larrivee used to set up the D03's for medium strings...although the D60 is set up with light strings.
My D03 and D03R hold up very well with aggressive strumming!

If you mean lighter compared to the OMs... I don't think so, but I don't know for sure. I also think all Larrivee guitars come setup with lights but can handle mediums.

According to the Larrivee website, all 50 & 60 series are set up with mediums and the rest are all set up with lights.

Yep,

50's and 60's are set up with mediums, everything else lights.  Had my 60 set up for lights, works great.  Tons of tone, Tons of volume.  Easy on the fingers, too.

Got an 03 set up for extra lights,  AND tuned down a half step with no buzz.  Now talk about easy on the fingers.   Lost a little volume, but I can't sing that loud anyways.
Larrivee D-03
Larrivee D-02 12 String
Blueridge BG-140 (J-45's are overpriced!)
Gibson J-45 (J-45's were overpriced :) )

Lost a little volume?  Put a set of mediums on there and tune down a semitone, it'll roar!!!
