Man, talk about a severe GAS attack. I convinced myself that I had to drive to Staten Island on Saturday to try out their selections of Dobro's. In a store like that, you can't try just one. I had a failry decent conversation with Stan the owner, who seemed like a very pleasent huy to be with.

I had tried the Gibson/Dobro's Hound Dog at Guitar Center, and the ones I tried at G barely made any noise. I tried a really nice Hound Dog Deluxe (with the round sound ports) and that puupy just sang! It blew away the Nationals and every other Dobro they had. I didn't buy for sake of my marriage, but I get my bonus today and I think there is another trip to the store in my very near future.

I also tried a couple of the archtops. Man if anyone is looking for a really nice, and I mean nice in every aspect of the word (sound, looks, feel, etc) You should give the Eastman Joe Pisano f-hole archtop a try. THis guitar sounded really sweet unplugged and came alive when plugged in. I think it may have been used, and had a tag on it in the low $2k's, but baby I would have liked to take that one home with me as well.

If you live near NYC, make the effort to take the trip!

A day at MB is a day like no other.  And you really can spend a day there.  I try to go once a year.

I really have to buy my wife something nice, she is now telling me to go back to Mandolin Brothers and buy the guitar...rather than getting a similar one (F-holes rather than the metal circular ones) on ebay right now for about $500 less. She is actually being emphatic about it. This is a first, and probably won't last (that Eastman really was nice, and would be right at home here).
