I want to install a K&K pure mini pickup on my D-03R, bought in about 2005 (I think). Can't figure out how to remove the strap button, which is replaced by the jack socket. See pics below. It looks like I probably need to unscrew it from the inside, but no idea what tool to use? Any ideas anybody?

Am sure brighter minds than mine will weigh in shortly, but pretty sure I just used pliers, specifically the "slipjoint" type to simply grab the outer ring and twist counterclockwise. (The slipjoint type will get a better grip that won't slip.) Obviously there's potential for maring the finish here so go slow. A quarter turn here should get it loose enough to finish removal with just your fingers.

The hex nut size I dunno, perhaps someone here will, but I'm thinking that's more for tightening, I don't recall needing one when I removed mine.

Installation seems scary using quickset superglue but it's doable. The instructions K&K provides is pretty thorough so just take your time. My opinion is that precise placement of the pads isn't all that critical plus/minus 5mm or so - it's basically gonna sound the same if you're a tad off from perfect. Best of luck with it!

The stock endpin assembly is shown in the pic.
The tygon (plastic) tubing is a sleeve on the T-nut and provides a slight friction fit inside the hole.
The T-nut points are not hammered into the wood, they barely grab the wood and keep the T-nut from rotating.
Loosen the end pin with a 3/16 hex, unscrew and remove.
Push the T-nut with the tygon sleeve from the outside of the guitar until it falls free into the body of the guitar. It takes no effort at all. Use anything, a pencil, screwdriver, dowel, whatever.

Many thanks! I was using hex keys that were way too small  easy once I'd got the right size.

The installation went fine and I think it sounds pretty decent!
