I'd like to finally change the Ping tuners on my beloved Larrivee OM-02 (built in 2018). I've always loved the look of open-backed tuners. Perhaps I'll also lighten the neck a smidge.

Can anyone suggest a direct drop-in replacement for the Pings?

Thank you much. I've missed reading the forum. Good to be back

Welcome back!
Larrivee makes lovely open gear tuners, but i have no clue if they would be drop in replacements. Im guessing the screw holes wont match up.

I'm a big fan of Gotoh tuners, they offer open back with a variety of tuner buttons

Here's the website showing the dimensions, diameter and screw placement

Most of the US sites don't carry the full line of Gotoh tuners, but japarts does

The stock pings have the one screw hole at the bottom while open-back tuners will have the holes on the north and south of the plate. If it's something you really want to do, I can guide you through filling the old screw holes and creating new ones. It's actually pretty simple and low-risk. Just make sure the post on the new tuner is the same size. StewMac sells excellent tuners and has all the sizes posted; https://www.stewmac.com/parts-and-hardware/tuning-machines/solid-peghead-guitar-tuning-machines/

If you just wanted to check if there's a drop-in replacement, I'd assume "no" because, in the least, you need to make more holes.

I appreciate the replies. That's good info, Bowie. So the screw holes and the shaft size are the two biggest considerations? Cool. I'll see what I can find at the provided links :thumb
