just wondering how similiar a Gibson L-oo and a Larrivee oo-03 is ? Both mahogony.

I believe the Gibsons were traditionally more heavily braced, which lends to that dry, blues-box type of sound. I don't now about the modern one. Old Gibsons varied a ton and this is part of the quirk and charm (see "Gibson Girls").
If you want something dry and projecting, it's hard to beat a Gibby L00. I think of the Larrivees being a bit more sustaining and nuanced.

I'm pretty sure the gibsons have the shorter 24.5" scale length as well.

I played a Gibson L-00 at the Gibson Garage in Nashville back in Dec. It was a very nice playing and sounding guitar. I believe my future Larrivée 00-44 full burst will be even better. Looking forward to it.

I find the Gibson instruments interesting. I've kind of stayed away from them as I've heard about build inconsistencies and seen comments on AGF saying they are great if you can find a good one. What I find interesting is the different takes on the same model (Original, Standard, Modern, etc.). I wonder what the J and the L stand for. Looking at them this morning, they also seem to have a G line that looks like it has been discontinued. I've heard demos where they sound really good. However, playing lefty, I don't have the option of trying several out to find a good one. And I don't like the fact that they put that pickup system in the instruments as a part of the package. A friend sold his J-45. He missed it so much he bought it again. He told me he bought the Standard and the 50s versions. After playing both, he returned the 50s saying it sounded anemic and meh.

That's one thing I find annoying about AGF is that a lot of people just repeat the same things they have heard decades ago and aren't very objective. Gibson had inconsistencies long ago but they've been one of the most reliable mainstream brands for a while now and I think you should feel comfortable buying a random one. In fact, these days, guitar making is such a refined process that I think finding a good one hasn't been relevant for a while now. The exception being low-end Chinese guitars where QC isn't a concept.

Hi I did buy the Gibson L-OO Original about a year ago. The pickup hardly worked at all. [brand new].Then the butterbean tuner on the E string broke.I v'e kept the guitar but would part with it. I am having a Larrivee oo-03 cutawy built for me . It's been almost a year ; still waiting.

Good things come to those that wait!

I've always wanted to try an OO-03.... And wondered if it has that same punch and warmth as my p-03
