Larrivée On Stands?

I noticed that a cheap no name made in China folding metal stand I've been using for years without any problems recently left black marks on the back of my L03R that I accidentally left on the stand over night.  Disgusted, I threw the stand out straight in the trash.  In retrospect, I should've kept the stand and replaced the black rubber with surgical rubber tubing I've been told.

Fortunately, the marks wiped right off with a soft damp cloth and some elbow grease, but it got me into thinking about the properties of rubber and the potential to inflict damage on finishes.  I did a bit of web searching and noticed that a number of people weren't so lucky, albeit with gloss lacquer opposed to satin, with permanent damage to the finish.

I'm wondering if people could share their experiences and give recommendations in terms of both wood and metal stands that have worked out really well?

I'm thinking that maybe the Hercules GS412B or GS414B might be a good stand in the practice room or perhaps even this cheap wood stand?  This wood stand looks good to my eyes and I figure I could probably even make this out of scrap wood I have lying around.

Anyways, I'm hoping that people could share comments regarding experiences with their stands and post pictures if at all possible.  Could you please be sure to include approximate price, model number, etc. with your comments?

Thanks in advance to everyone reading this post!

This has been discussed here before.  Do a search.

What about the foamy padded kind?

There is a writeup on frets.com (something like "Vinyl is your worst enemy") about something similar. I know it's not what you asked, but FYI.

EDIT: Also, you probably know this, but be sure to keep your guitar in the case during the winter - at least if you're in a  climate where you need to heat your house/apt; heat goes up = relative humidity goes down. Leaving it out will dry it out - while leaving it in the case facilities retention of moisture (which is good during the winter).

I think that's the kind that is doing the damage.

I had one with surgical tubing that eventually disintigrated. I replaced the tubing with this clear vinyl tubing from the hardward store - has worked great for years:

That looks neat.  I just placed an order for a couple of them.  One of my stands has the tubing all deteriorated, so this looks like just the ticket.

I ordered a couple back on the 3rd.  Haven't come yet.  Sent an email a couple of days ago, no response.   Now the website is off line.  I hope I haven't lost my $15.90.  :(

I see the website is back on line.  There is also a phone number.  I'll probably give a call tomorrow to see what the story is.  I didn't realize they were located so close to me.

I really like this Fender stand. It has the black foam kind of padding but I've had no marks whatsoever. It is small, cheap and compact.

Any rubber tubing or foam padding will off-gas chemicals over time as it breaks down.  These chemicals play havoc with a guitar's finish.  You should naver have your guitar touching these directly.  Use some sort of inert covering, cloth is common, to keep the finish from being affected.  Do not believe what the marketers say about no harm.  These stands will hurt your finish!
