I walked into Guitar Center in Appleton Wisconsin yesterday only meaning to buy some picks and ended up with one of these. My wife saw it on the wall and asked me what it was. I got it down and played it a bit and she urged me to get it. I got the spruce model. Very cool!

These things are pretty  cool.   Basically a lap dulcimer shaped to be played like a guitar.

Very cool dulcimer like object...

...but what were you doing in Appleton? I was there Sunday - Tuesday morning to see my mom and sister (my mom is struggling at 87). They live in Neenah.

Just missed you! Drove back to MN on Tuesday (and stopped for about an hour at Dave's Guitar Shop in LaCrosse - I saw a few of these, but didn't try one).

Down for ten days so Helen could see her daughter and take care of some business. Went to our US vet and had my puppy neutered for about a third the price at home. Poor guy! Anyway, whatever you do, don't try one of these things unless you're prepared to buy one. Immediately addictive. The diatonic scale set up makes it very difficult to play a wrong note. Would be great for beginners.

Pics of the new strang thang.

Have I mentioned lately how much fun this dang little thing is to play?  :cheers

Um... not lately...  :whistling:

:nice guitar: Or guitar type instrument...

Just kind of curious if anyone else has run into one.  :cheers

Every Guitar Center I have been in has had these for several years now.  They are cool, but, not something I really know how to play.

You don't have to know much to play one. Any guitar skills will make this thing work very well. Actually difficult to play a wrong note.   :guitar

I bought one as a Christmas gift for my son a few years back.  Still sits around on the couch in the basement.  I pick it up every so often as do my boys.  The son I bought it for is well versed in guitar, piano, mandolin, ukulele, bass, trumpet and he recently bought an alto sax and a set of used electronic drums....

Our M4 was set up like yours , tuned to D but I had seen one in a shot tuned to G, lower and that's how I have it strung up now.

Sure, I've had mine tuned to E to play a song my buddy wrote in Drop E (with a five string capo). Not a problem tuning up and it still sounded fine. Curious. When you say. "tuned to G" what pitch are the strings? Would you just tune the middle string to G instead of A?
