Sounds like the title of this thread might more likely have been " Unforseen accidents that prevented you from playing guitar "  Just joking of course, things like this are always a tragedy for everyone who plays, and it seems like there have been many lessons learned from them...  A friend of mine shattered his left elbow and it took him six years of therapy before he could play again.  So, it can always be worse...
