Larrivee is sending me a replacement switch but really want to use this thing tomorrow night.  Anyone know how I could trouble shoot? It appears when I tap the three way switch I get some pops and the pick ups go in and out.

Only thing you can do is replace the switch yourself or bring it to your favorite tech and maybe there is something they can do temp.

unclerob et all......is it worth a shot to spray the switch with contact cleaner electrical spray...i know that works with volume and tone pots...i would take it to a music store and get them to spray it for me....don't think it will hurt. :beer

PRS semi hollow electric

The spray may work but there can be other cause's.The contacts can be miss alined, there could be polish dust in the cavity, hard to say with out a visual or more info.

PS:the polish dust is in every brand of electric that come's across my bench sometimes its hard as a rock to start with but once you start moving around it does break down

While switchcraft switches perform well (thier movement is very nice), they are not the best quality. Out of every 100 I buy I have to return 10 to 15 of them right out of the gate for broken tabs and bent switch plates (making the switch jump from position 1 direction to position 3 without stopping at position 2). My guess is that one of the tabs is broken or shorting. I've been looking for a better switch that performs as well, but I havent found one yet. Its possible that there is a bad solder joint, but it's unlikely since we wrap the wire around the contacts before soldering. You could pop open the switch cover and feel if any of the wires are loose from thier solder joints pretty easily, but other than that you will probably had to wait for the new switch.

I'm not a electric type of guy but I just want to say how much Matthew's comments and clarification are appreciated. Richard Hoover has a section of the Santa Cruz Forum all to himself for this purpose and a lot of misunderstanding can be avoided.

Class act, Matthew!
