Hello Everyone,

Well, the school summer vacation is more than half way over for my girls and I. We have been having fun, catching up with lots of friends and going on numerous day trips.

Due to other commitments I have had less time to play guitar and this has been one of the few periods, since I started playing guitar two and a bit years ago, that I haven't picked up my guitar every day. I play predominantly fingerstyle, with a relatively light touch, mainly late at night, at home by myself, with light strings. :) All that adds up to a lack of callouses on my fretting fingers, but I have never really gotten sore fingers (except for the very first 2-3 weeks of playing for the first time) UNTIL NOW!

One other activity my girls love is swimming and we have a really, really nice pool in the complex where we are renting. We are in the pool at least 6 times a week, often for hours at a time.

So, regrettably I have discovered a new equation.  Lots of Swimming + Less Time Playing Guitar = Sore Fingers. :(

Just thought I'd vent a little.

Take care, Jared

Spending so much time in the water has softened up the skin on your fingers and made them more sensitive.   I've noticed this on my own fingers as I spend at least a few minutes in the pool everyday during our hot summers.  My callouses have a lot of miles on them so they stay pretty hard anyway but I can tell the difference.   This might be a good time to take up bottleneck slide and give your fingertips the summer off.    :bgrin:
And there's lots of years ahead  to play guitar but you never know how many summers you have with your girls.

The good news is that after 35 or 40 years they become like little iron pads impervious to pretty much anything. This too shall pass.

Sounds like good times, well worth the pain.
