Hello All
First time poster on the tech forum, thought this might be of some curiosity to the members. I would be most keen on hearing a guitar constructed from fungus treated wood.
Cheers

"Mushroom violin" outplays Stradivarius

A wood scientist and a violin maker are revolutionising the design of violins by using wood that has been treated with fungus.
In September the two even dared to put their instrument up against a Stradivarius in a "blind listening" experiment – and won!

I guess mistreated woods might have more potential than we give them credit.

"Sinker" logs recently got a little attention in the luthier world.  Sinker means wood that's been underwater for a long time, like wharf pilings or lost logs... the kind of thing you'd expect to be porous and rotten, but turns out to be fantastic.  Dunno why

I think it was maybe Taylor made a splash (ha!) last year with a run of sinker redwood tops, from logs that sank during some big Northwest logging floats many decades ago.  Recently found, and they made some great tops out of these things.  Maybe fungal growth has similar properties...

So what's next?  Home over-humidification kits which allow you to fungicize your guitar from the inside out?  :bgrin:
