Martin Jc-16gte Or Jc-16rgte Jumbo

Has anyone had the opportunity try a Martin JC-16GTE or JC-16RGTE Jumbo guitar compared to Larrivee jumbo? They sem at least on virtual paper a very good guitar. The price being asked for them by Elderly is down right cheap, about $1.1k for solid the rosewood with the Fishman blended pickup system. There has to be a catch, like they actually don't work. I went to GC this afternoon to see if they had one. They didn't have the jumbo, but they had a similar model in an OM in rosewood, seemed to be a comfortable, well sounding guitar. Whats the catch?

I played a rosewood JC-16GTE last month at Rosewood guitars in Champaign, IL.  I thought it was a great guitar for the money.  Nice tone, great bass, and excellent balance.  Not boomy at all.   If I didn't already have 3 great guitars, I would have bought it.  The shop owner, Andy, mentioned that he thought it was one of the best values out today.  (He doesn't carry Larrivees!)

It was very comfortable, too.  Same width as a dread, but due to the narrower waist it sits a little better in the lap.

I'm actually thinking of getting one of these, and like you, I'm wondering what the catch is. I played an 00016-rgte today and I liked it.

I saw the Jumbo at a Sam Ash store, but the strings were incredibly dead, I strummed it twice and just put it back because of the strings.

Go back and tell them you're intrested in the guitar and ask them to put new strings on.  Any good store will be happy to do that for you.

Hmmm, I might consider going back. Maybe early in the morning tommorrow. The place is Mannys Music up in Hollywood and the traffic there is BAAAAAAADDDDD. I don't know if I want to go through that again. I think I'm gonna go ahead and order an LV-03RE later today.

Actually I played a 000-16rgte at a mom and pop store and I thought it was pretty good. I haven't been able to play this with a Larrivee back to back though. And I have found out that the more instruments I play, and the more times I go back to different music shops, the better idea I have for what I want. I played some Taylors yesterday and I wasn't at all impressed with them, I played some martins too, and I wasn't impressed with them either(although I didn't play the 000 or the jumbo since they didn't have them.

The 000 was very comfortable though.

Martin has an "M" size which is the "J" outline in a "000" depth. It has also been listed as a "0000." It was available for a time in a 16 series and it may be at present. I think there is an M-16 or an MC-16 in the lineup. This may be more to your liking. (Not to be confused with the OM-16).
