I own a D-05E--just wondering what Taylor you would compare it to? I like a good deep base sound especially  in the key of E. By the way, what other Larrivee would be a notch above the D-05? thanks for your input!!!

My personal preference would be an L05 rather than the D05, assuming you are comparing one mahogany guitar to another.  I prefer the Larrivee L body as compared to the D style regardless of the tonewoods. I own an L05 and it is a very nice guitar.  I don't know which Taylor hog would be the most direct comparison, but I can tell you that I owned a Taylor 810 for 8 years, and while I always enjoyed that guitar, I do not hear anything from Taylor these days that makes me want to go back.

That's my 2 cents worth.  Hope it helps.

Sonically, I find that the Larrivée mahogany dreads sound most like vintage Gibsons. They don't come much better than a D05, imo. Especially in E or drop D.

D-05 is probably most comparable to the Taylor GS Supruce over Mahagony.

The D05 is a dread and the GS (definitely not a dread) looks like Taylor is trying to make an Larrivée L.
