Great looking guitar. Doesn't help my gas.

What a nice looking guitar! I bet it sounds great too.

These two pictures are both well-composed, beautiful shots!  It would get my vote for GOTM.

Well, thanks, appreciate that!

The guitar sounds amazing, but I'm still tweaking the action a little lower but putting light gauges took out the throaty sound the bass strings had so it's still a work in progress.

Oddly, it's made me appreciate the sound of my other Larrivee, LSV-11 even more. Playing the F-IV is like a brash sports car while the LSV is a refined Crown Vic :bgrin:

Lovely guitar    :thumb   - for one who has a OM-50 these satin Larrivee's are certainly making me rethink which finish I prefer.

Photos good too!!

I've managed to get a glimpse of a few glossy mahogany Larrivee's and I was very impressed. Larrivee seems to know just how dark to stain mahogany to it's best advantage. Coming from a satin Taylor mahogony, the F-IV is head and shoulders nicer. Taylor stains their hog wood way too dark for my taste making the satin finish look  chalky.

Satin seems to give the guitar a more informal vibe and I don't worry about denting it up nearly as much. It's been by my couch for nearly two weeks now and that's were it's going to stay. :bgrin:

I'm pretty sure Larrivee doesn't stain mahogany.

Nor do they stain their rosewood, ebony, maple, bubinga, sapele...etc, etc, etc

Nice top, jp. Like the first pic the best. Looks like a sweet GOTM one?? :nice guitar:

So it seems I have come to doubt, all that I once held as true

I'm not good with words, so here's a crude clip" http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9079084

Basically it sounds very similar to my mahogany Taylor 312, but "richer" somehow. When I had the medium strings on, the F-IV had a kinda raw woody tone to it. It lost some of that with the light gauges I now have on there. It's taken me a while to figure out that I strongly favor the sound of mahogany over anything else I've ever played, so the sound is just what I hoped it would be.

The clip was made the first day or so I had the guitar so it's clumsy as hell and I'm still learning to keep my fingernails from buzzing the open strings while I play.

My poor neglected Taylor has now lost it's appeal and will soon be up for sale. I enjoyed it for 12 years, but it's time to move on.

(Heh, the F-IV  is doing hi-fives with it's big brother LSV in the other room as I type this, now boys . . .)  :winkin:

Listened to the sound clip... sweet sounding git. As I have expected, it sounds as good as it looks.

Thanks for sharing!

Took me a while too but once you're the mahogany bandwagon, it's not easy to get off!

I go into guitar stores and try rosewood guitars but nothing seems to blow me away...but I can pick up any L-05, P-05, D-18, 000-18...then I get to go home and play my FIV and FIII...I can't decide which I like better, hog/hog or hog/spruce...right now, it's hog/hog but once the set up on the FIII is complete, it might be a different story.

These Forum guitars, III and IV, have been the guitars I've been dreaming of for some time.

jpmist, I'll have to wait until I get home to listen to your clip...

Congrats on your FIII.  I know exactly how you feel!

You are kidding right??

Sounds great    :thumb what tuning is that in?

<blush> Thanks. It's just that I hear the mistakes and know that I can play it better.

It's standard tuning. I'm sorely remiss in never having explored any other. I did download Denis's wonderful tab of"Samuel" and can get thru much of it, but I imagine it'd be a long time before I could compose anything in a different tuning.

Ditto, You had my vote. Of course I had a little inclination towards the F-IV.

It is a nice guitar and a fine picture.

Congrats, great photo and guitar!  Maybe I need to send the RS4 as a congratulation gift...........naw......

Congratulations! :thumbsup :thumb :+1:
