Post by: Cwadroon on July 10, 2019, 10:05:28 AM
I have had this guitar for around 30 years. Purchased new in Victoria B.C
Can anyone help me with the details?
Thanks in advance

It appears to be an L 12 string.

If you go to Larrivee's website and plug in your serial number, it will tell you what year it was built. (Occasionally it gives the wrong info, but most of the time it is correct. Also, be sure you're entering your serial number correctly. If you have a 5 digit number stamped on the neck block inside your guitar, that will give an accurate result. However, for some older Larrivees, there is a gap between two numbers, for example 09 8967 - in this case, the "09" is the model number, and the "8967" is the actual serial number - try putting it in with the space between the numbers; if that doesn't work, put in the last 4 digits only.)

 :nice guitar:

My guess is your model name is an L-41. When Larrivee first moved to BC there was a short period where they hadn't yet started adding a serial # to their guitars - but do look inside and should it have one submit the serial # HERE (https://www.larrivee.com/manufacture-date-lookup) as Mikeymac suggests. Also there was a period where the data has been lost as well. But all worth a try.

Do so let us know what you learn

Luvly looking guitar

Ahh  yes or could also been named an L-45 depending on when manufactured.  Essentially in todays naming framework - an L-10. There hasn't been a lot of L-25's posted around here.

I may have mis-understood this post, as I own a Victoria build L-10 and an L-42. basically a matched pair, except the 10 has 6 strings, and the 42 has 12.
Both have full top abalone dressing and elaborate fret markers- similar to the one pictured.

:roll lots of room for misunderstanding Larrvee model naming histories. As far as I know there is/was no difference between a L-10 12 string and Models 42 45 and 25. If there was a difference other than era of time I don't think it is any longer known even by JCL and his boys

ok, your post thought his guitar would be an L-10 that's all,
and I (feel) an L-10 is different thant a 12 string thats all. At least my L-10 is different than the L-42 ONLY in the number of strings.....

Sorry Kevin I am unable to understand your meaning, to clarify in todays naming of models; there are two L-10's - an L-10 six string and  a L-10 12 string

Hi Folks,

It's an L-25.  When the 19 Series came out, it was the 12 string equivalent. Headstock and fingerboard inlays but no silver border or abalone purfling.

There you have it, but thought 25 series was a 10 series equivalent and not a 19.

The 19 equiv in 12 spring was an L-41 - my 1st reply..   Oh boy gotta love the Larrivee model naming pre 2000   :arrow

Well, "25" Series as the 12 string equivalent for "19" Series makes sense, since 19 + 6 (more strings) = 25.

During that period there were three levels of 12 strings..

L-15 (09)
L-25 (19)
L-45 (10)
