The only Taylor I have remaining is a T-5 Classic.  Not exactly a true acoustic guitar, but it does play and sound good plugged in...

I am still kicking myself in the rear for letting a 1999 Taylor K-22 get away.  It had a set neck and played and sounded like butter, in a guitar figure of speech sort of way...

Yes, I have two Taylors a GS mini which is just for travel and a wonderful 12 string Koa: K62ce 12 string 12 fret LTD. Only 50 made. Silky tones, warm basses, crisp highs and louder than you would expect from a smaller body.

I have a couple of GS Mini's one a Holden Village and the other a stock spruce / hog.  I also have a 1985 550 12 string and a 89 K22 Spruce/ Koa.  Oh yes a Koa T5 12 string as well.  All fine instruments.

414ce

I had to recently replace the nut. Now that I have it is actually enjoyable to play and sounds pretty decent plugged in

Yes that is a very weird response given the topic is posted under "Other Guitar Makers".

Still waiting for a single thread on Taylor here or in any other forum (besides the Taylor forum of course) without a single snide remark, smileys or not.  :rolleye:

Not any more.  Though my main guitar for years was a Taylor 422 (old numbering) maple sides and back and spruce top Grand Concert.  That was a great guitar.  Getting used to the scale of my parlor killed longer scale guitars (for the most part) for me.

Over the years I also owned two 510's, a 555, a Baby, and maybe another (or maybe not, I forget).  I thought all of them were great sounding well made guitars.

I think that's due to their enviable marketing and promotion aspect of their business. Luv em or hate em they sure know how to promote their product

I recently picked up a near mint 320 solid  Hog top , solid sapele back and side off C.L. for $750.00  nice guitar different from my OM-03-M Larrivee but if i had to give up one I'd sell the Taylor. I would not part with my Larrivee

I've never owned a Taylor.   But a Taylor guitar was in a way responsible for my discovering Larrivee guitars.   I had made arrangements to purchase a beautiful left handed 600 series maple back and sides Taylor in full sunburst.   I was going through a large left-handed guitar specialty shop in Texas...  maybe you could guess who it was.   I was dealing over the phone with the owner who was about to tell me how to send my money when he suddenly said "uh... too late...  a guy just walked in and offered me more money"  And that was that.  That same day I ran across an ad for Larrivee guitars in an acoustic guitar magazine.  I was intrigued.  checked out the forum and saw the type of folks who cherish these guitars and I decided I'd throw my lot in with them.  I ordered an OM-03R soon after.   Then I bought an L-10 from a forum member after a lucky weekend in Vegas.  Then a 000-50MT..   and a Forum IIII LS-03,  then a D-40R followed by a L-05TSB and finally a P-05.   A few years ago I found a lefty Taylor hanging on the wall of a guitar store and tried it out.   I left the store thanking my good fortune that the one in Texas got sold out from under me.  I may never have discovered these great Larrivee instruments.

Pretty cool story Tuffy.  I have never owned a Taylor either.  I was deciding between a Taylor and a Martin and met a guy who played a Larrivee.  He let me play it for a while and that set me on my quest to find out more about Larrivees.  They were pretty elusive, hard to find in those days, but I now have 3.  I still check out other guitars
from time to time, and checked out the newer revoiced Taylors, which sound way too thumpy, like they really were chasing the Martin bass.
I certainly think Taylor has done a remarkable job in manufacturing and marketing, but they are not for me.

After playing only classical for many years (and after a quadruple bypass) I got rid of the classical and bought a Taylor 214. After less that a year and after purchasing my L-03 I decided the 214 just didn't cut it and sold it. The only Taylor I might be interested in now would be the 352ce or 362ce (the new small body, short scale 12-strings) but I haven't seen any to play so, for now, I'm happy with my assortment.

Hello, I am a new member here.  My twin is a big Taylor guy, I almost hooked him on a Larrivee but he resisted.  My Larrivee is a custom Italian Spruce/Silver Oak P03.  My Taylor is a custom Grand Concert all Tasmanian Blackwood.   They make great guitars and are very consistent as expected with the high level of mechanization Taylor uses.  Andy Powers is a genius designer and their marketing is superb.  They have their way of doing business.

On the other hand, the Larrivees seem to each have a piece of the family in them and I am a proud owner.  They have their way of doing business.

Did you know Mr. Larrivee and Mr. Taylor are friends?

I have had several Taylors. They were all terrific guitars. When I went through the great guitar purge of 2015, they were the first to go. It's not that I valued them less, or that it was easier to let them go. They were the most marketable.

I've enjoyed several GC sized Taylors but they all got kicked out of the nest 4 or 5 years ago when 12 frets changed my ear for how I like a guitar to sound.

I did manage to get Gased by my recent Taylor 322 which is a grand concert sized 12 fret short scale with a cutaway. A set of specs that are bafflingly hard to find. The guitar is ridiculously easy to play- literally the first time I picked up one it was as if I'd been playing it for years. Set up is probably the strongest point to me of Taylors as I'd cut my teeth on their neck profile and string spacing since my first one over 20 years ago.

I had to abandon my favorite Elixar Phos-Bronze strings and go with the same Earnie Ball Alum Bronze that I now have on my OOV hogtop. The blackwood top, hog body and shorter scale needed brightening up.

It's a damn handsome looking guitar also, another one of Taylor's strengths with a sunburst satin finish that I like much better than Larrivee's as it's slightly glossier. I'll likely hang onto it until the day comes when I come across an Larrivee OOV short scale, but not holding my breath.

I had the good fortune of a tour of the Oxnard facility on a Saturday by none other than Jean himself. While he was showing off the CNC machine that they were using at the time to cut necks, Jean said something like "Bob Taylor showed me how to set this up."

I've owned four Larrivees and two Taylors.  I currently own a 324 (GA) Hog over Blackwood.  It's a terrific instrument.

I check out Taylors whenever I'm in a shop that has them (which is often, because most shops do, unlike Larrivee...  ), and they are always beautiful, well made, well set up guitars.  I've never been a big fan of the tone, although I know Andy Powers has been modifying that in recent years.

I will say either the Baby Taylor or GS Mini (I don't know which is which - it has an arched back - it's the larger of the two) sounds surprisingly good for its size; better than the Larrivee parlors I've played... one shop I was in had a lefty and I was slightly tempted by it as a travel guitar option...

...there's a shop near me that also has a lefty Taylor dread w/cutaway that sounds quite good - I've resisted so far because I do NOT need another dread, and I'm not crazy about dreads with cutaways (they just look wrong). But it does play wonderfully ... unfortunately, if I could get them down a couple hundred more $$, I'd probably give in to the dark side...

I'll preface this with a comment that I am a Taylor fan.  If they made an all solid wood 24" scale small body guitar, I'd own one.

I have had 2 Baby Taylors. I got the second thinking the first must have been a fluke. They are the most environmentally sensitive Guitars I have *ever* played.  Temperature and humidity just threw them way off.   Blech...  The Mini's, they always feel like toys.

Like I say, in general I like Taylor's.  Great materials, great workmanship, great tone.  But their lesser models were just that...  lesser models.

Both the Big Baby and the GS Mini are great guitars although very different (shape, scale, #frets), so if you played either of these, I understand why you liked it.  The BBT has a slightly arched back (I've played lots of them).  Can't remember if the GS Mini does.  The smaller 3/4 size Baby Taylor cannot compete with either of these guitars.

I did a tour of Taylor guitars and am now back with Larrivee. I did like my Taylor 814ce the best of the them, but sold it as with the GS8 . I still have a GS mini Hog w/ LR baggs ANTHEM SL installed. Removed the pick guard an it looks great. But love my Larrivee L04 very much

Heres a pic of the GS8 I owned with pick guard removed - nice guitar:

I played an old Lemon Grove 555 for years, and loved it.
I've enjoyed a '96 512-M for about 15 years, and have just put it out on consignment.  So easy to play, someone is going to get a great deal.

Two years ago, a group of my former HS students (now approaching 60 years of age!) got me a used and in very good shape Taylor 214ce, the Grand Auditorium shape.  It has solid spruce top, "layered" back and sides mahogany, and an arched back.  Made in Mexico.  This darned thing is GREAT sounding, easy to play everywhere on the fretboard (I love the cutaway), and has changed my perception of laminates and Mexican made guitars.  If I had more money, I would consider their 2018 high-end models with the new bracing A pattern.

About a year ago I got a GS Mini given as a gift, mahogany back and sides model.

Not something I would seek out myself; had no real desire for a Taylor but I gotta say it's been a very nice "compact guitar" to take about, with a rather large voice and projection.

Doesn't sound "small."
