Title: Elixir PB Nano 5 String Set
Post by: LookingForLarri on January 31, 2006, 12:14:47 AM
I recently bought a Martin 000-28EC from an AGF member ( awesome guitar, highly recommended )  and it came with the new Elixir Phosphor Bronze Nanoweb strings on it and I really like them. Great lows, even mids and clear highs.  Nice to play a D chord and not have my cat start singing back at me !  :GRN>  So, I decided to order a few sets to try them out on some of my other guitars , namely my Northwood OM80.  I found a deal at http://www.stringsandbeyond.com/ were if you bought three sets at 13.95 each they would throw in a dozen Elixir picks and free shipping.  Thinking this was a fair deal ( Shameless Plug for Strings and Beyond )  I went for it and they arrived today.

Eager to hear my Northwood I went straight to putting on the new PB's.  My ritual is always the same,

Take Old Strings off
Wipe down fretboard
Take new strings out of the pack and turn them over so the low E is on top
Start putting on new strings
Tune , Stretch, Tune
Play

So I put on the E, A, D, G no problem and then I notice only the high E remains !!

I look everywhere around my work area ( the bed, who am I kidding ) and the other packet is nowhere to be seen.  It appears I have received one of the ultra rare
5 string PB sets.  Good thing I ordered 3 sets because I had to raid one of the other sets for a B string.  I will give Strings and beyond a call tomorrow and let them know and hopefully they can send me 1 B string.

No Brainer Lesson Learned - Make sure ALL 6 Strings are in the PACK

But as far as the review goes.. Awesome sound and playability on the Northwood.  Two thumbs up for these strings.  I had some D Addario EXP's on before and the guitar seemed stiff and hard to play, not so with these PB's.  We'll see how they hold up but out of the box(es) they are awesome.

The response from Strings and Beyond this morning

"Today we will put a single .016 "B" string in the mail to you."

Customer service is alive and well, just getting harder and harder to find.

Did your cat take it?

I have to close the door while re-stringing, my cats love those loose strings.  I can't keep them away from them.

Honestly , I don't know   I never thought about that.  He is 13 years old so I think his "taking" days are long gone.  :GRN>
