Title: Presonus Firebox and AT2020, AT4033a
Post by: Nephidoc on October 10, 2005, 12:22:37 AM
I've been using my new firewire audio interface for about a week now.
The results have been realy fun.
I would say I'm on that STEEP part of the learning curve :GRN>

This is perfect for people with a laptop that want to record or who
don't want to get an new audio card for their computer.
For desk tops it even uses the computer firewire to power the box
and microphone.

It is almost idiot proof.  Just load the Cubase LE software, plug it
in the port, plug in a mic... start recording!
In about 5 hours of "playing" with it I've already burned a CD of
me doing duets with myself.
I'm realy not psychotic... the drugs have been working.

I'm slowly grinding through William Leavitt's Modern Method for
Guitar and it is a kick to actually do all the duets at my tempo and
get used to playing with another guitar.
Even if it is myself.

I'd post a song but I'm on an even steeper learning curve with my
LV-03K.

The recording will no doubt speed up your guitar playing progress.

i've got to wait awhile for it to ship...i did the firebox/at2020 mic combo deal.  shipping was high, but it was still a good deal.  i don't know about using Cubase, i'll give it a look,,,thinking of getting Apple Logic Express at an educational discount in the near future.  Garageband may be all i need though....and a more powerful computer :GRN>
looking forward to the fun!  thanks for the encouragement and reviews on the firebox.

How are you liking the FireBox/AT2020 combo?

I recently picked upthe FireBox and use it with an AT4040 and AKG C535EB XY pattern with my C-09.  Gives me a pretty nice, pretty accurate sound with 3 dimensionality (manost of the tone problems I'd get with either mic used by itself dissappear).  Until I get the time to really delve into Cubase LE, I still do most of my recording in ACID Pro 4.0.

i haven't had the time to play as much as i would like, but i've had no problems at all with the firebox,,,haven't even got to pull out the mic yet.
i did some work in Garageband, but will save up for either Logic Express or Tracktion 2,,,they are supposed to be more efficient on the ol' processor.  i could probably go ahead and install cubase, but i really enjoyed Garageband's ease of use. i didn't enjoy it's use of power.
so that's it so far.

I just made my poor wife move for the second time in
December... TWO years in a row.
Sure it's a nicer house but I'm never moving again!

I wouldn't dare pull that thing out and start playing with
it untill every "Honey Do" on her list is done twice.

I'll let you know as soon as the coast is clear.

Say where did any of you buy this (Presonus Firebox and AT2020) combo? I have found it only at one site, they want $30.00 standard shipping  :EM> Yikes

i think it was called jd sound. and yes they charged 30 bucks for shipping, which is crazy. however, by the time i added up the mic, mic stand (which i needed), and xlr cable, it still saved me $70-$100.  shipped here great, no problems. it might be worth the extra bucks to buy from sweetwater or something for the peace of mind, but as i say, no problems here, and whatever reviews i read on them were positive.

www.sweetwater.com has the Firebox on a $25 rebate ($274.99 total ) until the 15th of January.  call them up, talk to a salesperson and ask for the rebate.  They'll be able to look it up and award it to you.

This little rebate was what pulled my trigger finger.

I already have a nice LDC mic and it does sound pretty nice with it.

BTW, using my Firebox with Tracktion 2 on a PC with no problems.

This is the guy I bought mine from.

http://cgi.ebay.com/PRESONUS-FireBOX-NEW-NIB-many-extras-Dealer-w-warranty_W0QQitemZ7377639276QQcategoryZ41784QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

He's got a different offer now.
I'd personally go for the headphones, then buy the NT-1 mic or the Studio projects C4s for guitar.

Free shipping and a $99 dollar add on... not bad.

This guys customer service is not to be beleived.
He called me 5 times trying to get the package I wanted perfect.
Fast shipping and probably the best treatment I've ever had from a Flea-Bay seller.
