Title: copying jpg images posted to the forum
Post by: Randy_R on June 10, 2005, 10:24:08 AM
I wanted to make my own copy of a .jpg image that someone else uploaded to the forum.

I downloaded it using the normal "saveas" windows copy. It downloaded OK.

When I try to display it using any kind of imaging software, it says invalid file format.

However if I saveas a .bmp file, its viewable after download.

I'll also note that their is a link under any uploaded image. clicking that link results in the same error.

I tried this and didn't have any problems.  I clicked the link under a picture, saved as, and it opens in any software I have.  Are you specifically naming it a .jpg, or leaving it as is?

After saving the file to my disk, either by using the link underneath, or by clicking on the image and doing a saveas xyz.jpg, I get the following error from paint, or other programs...

Can you open it with Internet Explorer?

Even though I've selected save it as a .jpg. it seems to want to save it as a .php file.

There's a hint in that somewhere.

This isn't a biggy issue. I'll play around with it a little bit and see if I can document a good reproducer.

What if you right click on the picture and do "Save As"?

When I click the link below your picture, this is what I get (See attached).  Choosing "Save As" and OK saves it perfectly as a jpg.  You shouldn't have to tell it what file type you want to save as.
