Title: Don't Know the Meaning of Terms
Post by: William2 on June 15, 2026, 01:14:19 PM
I was on AGF today reading a discussion of the new Taylor action control neck. Someone made this comment:" I rarely play above the neck/body joint that much anymore. But when I did in the past, the fallaway beyond the neck/body joint was sometimes very noticeable after a neck reset. The NT neck resolved that concern. I'm not clear on how, or if, the new Action Control Neck addresses the fallaway issue." What is fallaway and what does NT stand for?

NT: I think he is referring to new Taylor action control neck
Here's a video that explains fall off.
Fall-away describes the deliberate sloping of the fretboard extension away from the path of the oscillating strings. This is usually adressed during initial construction and/or a refret, where the surface of the board can be planed or sanded directly.

Fall away is something guitars sort of need. It's technically not an accurate way to plane frets but it allows for less chance of buzzing. That said, this specific discussion sounds like an issue relevant to a specific Taylor design.
