Title: Selling a D-50-MH-0 Larravee
Post by: jimfriery on April 26, 2026, 10:59:56 PM
Hi

I was hoping I could use this forum to get some help. I was gifted a Larravee D 50 (S/N 67719) from the sister of a friend who passed away. I have no use for it because I have two Martins, one Taylor, and one Ovation. Guitar Center has offered me approximately $1300 and they say they will sell it for $2100 approximately. Do you think this is a reasonable offer?

Thanks. I am out here in Ventura County, California. Any constructive and friendly advice is appreciated. I really would like to see someone play and own this guitar like it's their favorite.

JIM

We can only advise what we would do and what we think is fair. So, just take this as an opinion.
I think the offer is fair as they are going to struggle to sell it for that much and $1,300 is good considering you are free of all seller responsibility and fees. There's one on Reverb listed as brand new for $2,300 and isn't selling. I think you might get $1,700, minus fees (leaving you less than $1600 assuming the buyer pays for shipping). And, there's always a risk of shipping damage or a problem buyer. I always sell instruments myself but a $300 (or less) difference makes the GC offer sound quite attractive.

But, I could be entirely wrong and you could get top dollar so don't take my word for gospel.

Always pays to get a second and even third opinion/bid/appraisal when trying to sell musical instruments.  I got an free appraisal from this guy on a Larrivee and he seemed to provide a fair response.

He may even buy it from you outright.  Other than that it is pretty much what Bowie said.  How much hassle and/or risk you are willing to take selling it yourself online or to take a hit on price to alleviate that and sell it to a broker like GC.  At the end of the day, everyone wants to take a slice of the pie.  Hope this helps.

All good advice above.

If you're not in a rush, you could try to post it here for sale, or on other guitar forums.
I think GC is great if you just want a quick sale and be done with it.
