Title: Prine Tribute w/ Jason Wilber
Post by: StringPicker6 on August 15, 2025, 05:32:48 PM
Last Friday I went to a fantastic show at a small venue.  Jason Wilber and David Jaques were the supporting musicians for John Prine for many years, and they are on tour right now singing Prine's songs and telling great stories in between tunes.  Jason was in fine singing form, and his Larrivee P-03 sounded MAGICAL.  I have a newfound respect for the P-03.  I bought his recent solo artist album, Time Traveler, and it is full of his parlor playing tone.  Here are a few pics below.  Dave Jacques was a stellar singer and bass player as well.

Very cool. I really liked his live band. Is he using a parlour instead of a dread in the Prine songs? That would be interesting. I play a lot of Prine songs at home and I tend to like them on smaller instruments. Just fits the nature of those songs.

As much as I LOVE John Prine, the live sound out of his old dread was pretty terrible. Not because it was a dread. It may have been the pickup.

Yeah, all the Prine songs were played on his parlor, and since it was such a small venue and intimate show, it really sounded lovely.  Here's a video of Jason playing souvenirs:
