Title: NGD 2015 000-40MT
Post by: Koamon on March 25, 2025, 09:38:15 AM
Thinning the herd to 3 acoustics. Wanted a 12 fret 000 and off loaded my non Larrivee guitars for a ten year old 000-40MT with a large soundhole. The thing's a canon and it sustains forever. Stick a fork in me, I hope I'm done.

As a side note, this helped make my decision on a 000:

Congratulations on finding a nice, versatile guitar to round out your collection. My biggest problem is that I don't have the willpower to sell any of my guitars.

For anyone who has not tried an all mahogany guitar, I would highly recommend looking at a Larrivee. I have two including a 12 string LV-03MT and a 00-24MT 6 string. I also bought a custom 000 12 fret guitar from Martin 10 years ago. The key structural differences between my 000 and a Larrivee 000-40 MT are that mine has a 24.9 inch scale, a slotted headstock, a gloss finish, a spruce top and a three piece mahogany back. It's worth noting that my 00-24MT has been on vacation with me in Central Florida this month.

After 20 years of buying Larrivee guitars, one thing that's clear to me is that the Larrivee family has a trusted, long-standing relationship with their wood suppliers around the globe. Jean, John Jr. and Matthew all have a developed a keen eye for quality raw materials and it shows in their finished products.

Congrats! 000s are awesome. I feel like they're gaining in popularity, and deservedly so.
Side note; I can't believe the 40 series has been around for 10 years! Still feels like they are "new" but time sure flies.

I'd love to try a 00-24, that must have a very unique sound for a Larrivee.

Thx for everyone's kind replies. I did polish it up to a semi gloss and the mahogany grain is almost three dimensional.  Hey StringPicker6 that YouTube link I first posted has other great reviews on their channel. For a tone comparison of a 00, 000 and SD, you might find this helpful if you hadn't already seen it:
