Title: New Guitar Day! LV-09 (used)
Post by: StringPicker6 on February 06, 2025, 07:13:47 AM
Hi all!  As a certified seasonal depression professional, I find myself pouring over guitars on the internet during these cold dark months...  Lately, I've been really missing my LV guitar that I sold for freeing up funds.  Turns out that large home appliances and toddlers are expensive!  Anyway, I saw a used LV-09 for sale out in Virginia, outside of Washington DC for sale for $2,200.  It was too tempting at that price, so I said a silent prayer to Saint Jean Larrivee and bought it.  It arrived when the weather was in the teens, so I managed to wait 24 long hours to open it up.  Out of the box comes a slightly banged up case, but inside was a VERY clean, well cared for guitar.  Only concern was some definite fret spout on the neck, so I humidified it as much as possible for a few days.  Also, the action was extremely low, so I'm guessing a fingerstyle player owned it before.  So, I ordered a new bone saddle from the larrivee website and the guitar is with a local luthier now getting set up. I should have it back in a day or two, and I can't wait to play the heck out of it and break it in.  I'm hoping this is my forever guitar, and I'm proud to own Jean's original design.

A fun note: When the new saddle arrived, Larrivee had included a nice logo sticker/bumpersticker, and also a little keychain of the Larrivee paddle headstock made out of sitka spruce and laser engraved.  VERY cool!!  Love this company and this family!!!!

I forgot to mention- since I am not Elon Musk, I am regretfully going to have to sell my 00-40R as a result of this new purchase.  I plan on posting it shortly, but feel free to send me a message if you have any interest.  I has a moonwood top and the pick guard was not installed when shipped.  It's a beauty!

Congrats! 9 series are amazing.
After the market being dead for months, I've noticed a lot of people (including myself) deciding to pick up something new. Enjoy that beaut!

:nice guitar: The L is pretty much the perfect guitar, something about the enlarged classical shape makes it seem like a smaller guitar, but it has the volume of a dread.
I just restrung up my JCL40th with EXP17's to be fresh fics wedding in 10 days.  Sounds angelic

Well, I just got this guitar back from the luthier for a setup and a brand new saddle.  I asked him to keep the action and saddle height a bit higher.  Well, it sounds INCREDIBLE.  The bass is focused but very impressive!  I do believe the L is the greatest guitar design ever created.  Even the luthier said it's an amazing guitar.  I'm happier than a seagull with a french fry right now!!!

I have to agree with you, I love the looks of the L body design. If I get another instrument, it will be the L model. I've never been completely happy with an OM and that 16" lower bout on the L might just the thing I'm looking for.

Congratulations on getting a great setup and upgrade to a bone saddle. This guitar will be a great addition to your collection.

When Jean Larrivee designed the "L" body, it seems that he combined the best features of a classical guitar, a dreadnought and a jumbo. The end result was a smaller body design that projects, feels and plays like a larger bodied instrument that is now the Swiss Army knife of Larrivee's lineup. The "L" is great for fingerpicking, strumming or lead playing. To my eye, the "L" body shape is also ideally suited for a Venetian cutaway too.

When I bought my first "L" body in 2005 (14 fret LV-03MT 12 string), my luthier added a compensated bone saddle. 16 years later, I added a six string Forum VI (12 fret LSV-03) to the mix and mine are both set up for light gauge strings.

Hi SP6 - congratulations -  :nice guitar: . Eagerly looking forward to seeing, hearing, and if I can pry this away from your fierce grip for a moment, even strum a chord or two!
