Title: Norman’s Rare Guitars documentary on Netflix
Post by: teh on January 09, 2025, 08:56:04 AM
Last night I watched a great documentary, Norman's Rare Guitars, on Netflix. That's another place I should add to my bucket list of places to visit before I die.

Well worth watching for anyone who loves guitars and music history.

Norman's Rare Guitars is a great place to visit, and he seemed very welcoming when I had the opportunity to visit, a year or two ago.

He said I could play whatever I wanted, I just mostly looked around at all the offerings, as I didn't need to succumb to something $$$.

I saw this documentary the other night.  This looks like a great shop.  I read Norm's book last year and enjoyed it quite a bit as well.

As far as the film itself goes, I don't care for the ones in this format where a handful of people are interviewed and their comments spliced up and interspersed throughout the film.  Once you figure out who's being interviewed and featured, the whole film becomes sort of predictable.

It always strikes me as sort of being lazy on the part of the film-maker.  I would much rather see a film with a great narrator on top of beautiful footage, a great soundtrack woven throughout, telling a story: not listening to people just talk about the shop.  SHOW me, don't TELL me.  Just a preference of mine, not a slam on the film.
